Nagaland flags off peace mission to Kerala
Dimapur, July 23 (EMN): With an objective to promote universal peace as well as connect people and organisations in a stronger manner to stand and speak for peace, rights and justice, a ‘Peace Mission’ from Nagaland to Kerala was flagged off on July 20 at Bishop’s House, Dimapur.
The ‘Peace Mission’ was jointly organised by Oncorage Foundation, and organisation working to promote mental health; Peace Channel, a youth peace movement; and North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), a peace academic institute, an update from Peace Channel stated.
The mission was initiated to create nation-wide awareness on Covid vaccine and also to ask the government to establish a peace and justice commission in all states to educate, capacitate, promote peace and harmony at all levels.
The team is being spearheaded by Dr. Sajeev Thomas, a radio physicist at CIHSR, and Rev. Fr. Manu CST, a priest in Riphayim village in Wokha district.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Fr. Dr. CP Anto, director of Peace Channel and principal of NEISSR, emphasised on importance of peace for an individual and community, especially during the pandemic and socio-political scenario of India.
Describing peace as the connecting factor to sustain peaceful co-existence for all religions, communities, tribes, regions etc., Rev. Anto insisted that peace should be experienced in one’s personal life and transmit to others, families and communities.
“In the present scenario of socio-economic, political and religious background of India, we need to promote peace and stand for justice and peace. Understanding our differences as strength, we should bring development,” Rev. Anto said.
He also called upon other organisations and institutions to join hands in promoting the peace mission, which seeks for sustainable peace and development of the country especially during this precarious pandemic situation. He further stressed on the mission’s vision to advocate and seek the government to institute the commission for peace and justice both in the state and national level throughout the country.
