Dimapur, March 18 (EMN): NSRLM BMMU, Chuchuyimlang, in convergence with the Agriculture department, Mokokchung, conducted a two-day training on management of fall army worm (FAW) in maize and scientific cultivation of HQPM -1 in Mongsenyimti and Chuchuyimlang villages on March 16 and 17.

An update from NSRLM stated that the trainings were conducted by ATM Chubainla and ATM Lipoktila as resource persons.

It stated that the team had discussed about the occurrence and spread of pest and how it damage the crops and reduce yielding, which could directly impact the livelihood of farmers. A demonstration was given on the management and control of fall army worm in maize using traps and bio-pesticides.

The farmers were also taught on the scientific cultivation of maize and the availability of hybrid varieties. The resource persons also highlighted on the nutritional benefits of high quality protein maize, which is also regarded as an elite feed and fodder for livestock and poultry.

Inputs like bio-pesticides, pheromone trap and HQPM 1 seeds were distributed to the farmers by the Agriculture department.
