Nagaland: Farmers trained on linseed cultivation at Longtho village

Dimapur, Nov. 22 (EMN): ICAR-AICRP on Linseed, Medziphema centre, Sasrd organised a training programme for farmers on the importance and scope of adopting linseed cultivation in rice fallows.

SDAO Mangkolemba, A Temsu Aier said that this would increase the productivity of such lands while ensuring round the year income to the farmers with minimum inputs.

The one-day farmers training programme was conducted at Longtho village, in Mokokchung village on November 17, in collaboration with the office of the SDAO, Mangkolemba, department of Agriculture under TSP programme, an update informed.

It said that Dr. Noyingthung Kikon, junior agronomist, stressed on the importance of nutrient management and scope of adopting utera linseed in rice based cropping systems.

“Resource person Dr. Pezangulie Chakruno, junior scientist highlighted on the major diseases of linseed and their management aspects with key emphasis on cultural and biological methods of management,” it said. Altogether 43 farmers from Longtho, Watiyim, Longpayimsen and Moayimti villages attended the training programme. Local tools and seeds of improved linseed varieties T-397 and Shekhar were distributed to the farmers, it added.
