Dimapur, June 28 (EMN): Kohima Excise duty party manning Peducha check gate recovered 14,500 capsules of prescription drugs from a passenger of Zunheboto bound Tata Sumo taxi on June 26.

As per the driver of the taxi, an unknown person came with a neatly packed parcel at Dimapur Sumo stand and requested him to ferry the item to Zunheboto saying his relative would come to pick them. The driver also told the police that he acceded to his request in good faith.

Superintendent of Excise, T Arilong Longlumer, stated that investigations are on in this regard.

In another incident, the 3 (NH) BN Assam Rifles C/O 99 APO, during an operation on June 27, recovered 6836 bottles of assorted liquor from a truck bearing registration no. AS 01LC 2737 at TCP Junction, Kohima.

It stated that two accused persons identified as Raj Kumar Ray (22) and Deepak Kumar (28), both resident of Notun Basti in Lahorijan, Karbi Anglong, were penalised under the relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989. It added that the seized items were handed over to Kohima Excise department.
