DIMAPUR/KOHIMA — Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx), a state-wide mock drill to test the capability of the state in responding and managing any disaster, was held across Nagaland on Thursday.

In Dimapur, the mock drill was staged at Forest department residential block, Pantaloons showroom, Dimapur Government College, Government High School Sarbura, and Government Middle (Lotha) School, Duncan.

Apart from the two government schools, students of classes 7 and 8 from Government Middle School Duncan (Ao) participated in the mock drill.

In Mokokchung, the exercise was staged in five locations namely at Government High School at Dilong ward, Model Higher Secondary School, MMC Complex, Jubilee Memorial College and Vidi Vici Building.

In Tuensang, the exercise was staged at First Nallah, BOC, PWD Office, Old DC office and Officer Ward daily market. The superintendent of police, Kanchan Kumar Kandpal and the deputy commissioner of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, spoke on the occasion.

In Phek, the exercise was conducted under the supervision of eleven incident commanders headed by the deputy commissioner of Phek, Roupfukuotuo Noudi.

Col. PS Chundawat from 38 Assam Rifles was chief observer and assisted by assistant commandant, Bikranjit, Niak Subedar KK Singh, commandant of 5 NAP Yanrenthung Ngullie, and assistant professor Ronald Difoe as observers.

In Longleng, the mock drill was conducted at Longleng public ground with active participation by employees of government departments and agencies, who have played their respective roles and responsibilities as assigned to them in the incident response system (IRS), guidelines and structure issued by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).

The deputy commandant of 12th NAP (IR) Battalion, Chingtok Masudong; principal Yingli College, Dr. T TemsuImti; and SBI branch manager, Robert Tungoe, were the observers.

In Chümoukedima, the mock drill was staged at Government Higher Secondary School, Cosmopolitan School, Mt. Mary College, Koutsu Market Complex and Chumoukedima Town Council ground.

The deputy commissioner and chairman of DDMA, Chümoukedima, Abhinav Shivam, took a review of the mock exercise at CTC Hall and appreciated the DDMA officials and stakeholders for participating in the mock drill exercise with team spirit and dedication.

In Kiphire, the exercise was staged at four locations namely Daily market area, Cambridge High School, Water Resources department office and one private building belonging to Kiritong.

In Noklak, the mock drill under the supervision of the deputy commissioner of Noklak, Arikumba, was staged at locations namely at Village Guards office, Christian High School, KSU office and Noklak town bazaar.

A total of 20 students from Christian High School, Noklak, participated in the mock drill as volunteers.

In Wokha, the mock drill was staged at five locations namely District Hospital (DMMDH), Government Higher Secondary School, Mt. Tiyi College, Police Point (Humri Bakery) and Daily Market.

The deputy commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, who is also the district responsible officer, thanked all the members of district disaster management authority for the successful conduct of the exercise.

In Peren, the staging area was set up at Peren town local ground, while Peren Government College, Government Higher Secondary School, Hangsile residence, ADC’s office and Peren town daily market were designated as the incident site.

In Shamator, a mock drill was held at CHC Shamator, Government Higher Secondary School and some areas of the town with the participation of NCC cadets from Shamator College as volunteers.

The mock drill also saw the participation of officials from the district administration, Assam Rifles and NDRF.

In Tseminyu, the mock drill was staged at four locations namely Baptist Higher Secondary School, Town market area, SDEO and EE (PWD) office. Before the mock drill exercise, the DC and DDMA chairman, Rohit Singh, briefed the participants.

In Niuland, the mock drill was staged at two locations namely Shepherd High School and DC’s office under the supervision of the deputy commissioner, Sara S Jamir. The officer in-charge of Niuland and company commander of 8th NAP were the observers.

In Zunheboto, the mock drill was staged at four locations in Zunheboto town and conducted by personnel from SDRF, Fire and Emergency Service, Police, CMO and district administration.
