As many six candidates filed their nominations for the general election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Saturday, taking the total number so far to seven.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, updated that the following candidate had filed their nominations: N Jacob Zhimomi (BJP) under 4 Ghaspani-I AC; Salhoutuonuo Kruse (NDPP) under 8 Western Angami AC; Joel Naga (RPP) under 12 Tseminyu AC; Gwalozu Kath (RPP) under 12 Tseminyu AC (Stand-by); Y Vikheho Swu (NDPP) under 13 Pughoboto AC; and Dr. Neisatuo Mero (Independent) under 16 Pfutsero AC.

Independent candidate Hayithung Tungoe Lotha filed nomination from 37 Tyui AC on Friday, becoming the first person to do so for the Nagaland election 2023.

Sources informed Eastern Mirror that Y Vikheho Swu filed his nomination at around 2 pm on Saturday at Pughoboto headquarters. Accompanied by NDPP party workers, he filed the nomination before the Sub-divisional officer and returning officer for 13th Pughoboto AC, R Daniel Angami.

Salhoutuonuo Kruse, NDPP candidate for the 8th Western Angami Assembly Constituency (AC), also filed her nomination on Saturday at 11:25 am.

According to an update from DPRO, PHED minister Jacob Zhimomi filed his nomination in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswas.

The filing of nominations, which began on January 31, will be closed on February 7. Polling is scheduled on February 27 and counting of votes on March 2.
