Dimapur, April 9 (EMN): Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP), T John Longkumer, released a book titled “The Tombstone in My Garden” authored by Temsula Ao at Shiro Roastery, opposite Belho Clinic, Walford road, Dimapur, on April 9.

In the book, Temsula Ao, a recipient of Padma Shri Award, reflects poignant stories on the lives of everyday people beyond the headlines. The book also reflects Temsula Ao’s deep understanding not just of the human condition, but that of all life.

Temsula Ao is an Indian poet, short story writer, and ethnographer, who writes in English, She is one of Nagaland’s most eminent contemporary folklorists, academician and poets, and one of the finest authors of the country.

Ao was awarded the Padma Shri Award in 2007 and the Nagaland Governor’s Award for Distinction in Literature in 2009 and Sahitya Akademi Award in 2013 for her collection of short stories ‘Laburnum for my head.’ She also received the Kusumagraj National Literature Award (for poetry) in 2015.

Ao is a retired professor of English from the North Eastern Hills University (NEHU), which she had first joined in 1975. Her works have been translated into German, French, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada and Hindi.
