DIMAPUR — Chief Secretary of Nagaland Dr. J Alam held a virtual briefing with all the line departments on Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA) at the conference hall, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima on Monday.

Chairing the meeting virtually from Delhi, Chief Secretary Dr. Alam stated that PMJUGA is a very important project, especially for Nagaland, given its tribal concentration. He urged all line departments to take advantage of the scheme, ensuring their proposals and requirements are submitted properly.

Dr. Alam also urged all line departments to use social media platforms effectively to spread information regarding the Abhiyan. He instructed the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to widely disseminate information among the intended beneficiary population and the public in general, enabling maximum awareness.

Secretary for Tribal Affairs Angelina Tajen, highlighting the overview of the scheme through a PowerPoint presentation, stated that the mission will focus on convergence, outreach, and saturating tribal majority villages and tribal villages with specified interventions.

Tajen informed that the scheme will cover 63,000 tribal majority villages in 549 districts and 2,740 blocks across 30 states and Union Territories. She further added that the scheme will include 608 villages across all 16 districts in Nagaland, aiming to improve the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities and adopt saturation coverage for tribal families in tribal-majority villages and aspirational districts.

She stated that PMJUGA is a new scheme recently approved by the union cabinet under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. It aims to achieve specific goals based on the needs and requirements of tribal areas within the next five years, focussing on developing infrastructure, economic empowerment, universal access to quality education, and promoting livelihoods.

All line departments, along with the deputy commissioners of all districts, participated in the meeting via video conferencing.
