Nagaland cricket: Wokha, Mokokchung register wins in senior event; Kohima, Niuland win in U-16
DIMAPUR — As the Senior Men’s Inter-District One Day Tournament 2024 entered the final round on Monday, Wokha defeated Longleng in a thrilling encounter at Sovima Cricket Ground.
As per an update from the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) on Monday, Longleng put up a score of 88 runs on the board, as they were bowled out in 32 overs. E Shing Pang 30 (57 balls) and Rajesh Das 24 (55 balls) were the main contributors for the team, while Wokha’s bowling attack was led by W. Thechamo Odyuo, who took six wickets, while Renchio Odyuo claimed two wickets.
Chasing a low total, Wokha reached to target comfortably, scoring 89 runs for loss of just three wickets in 14.4 overs, helped by Renjamo Y. Mozhui with 25 runs (not out) and 22 runs by Nzanthung Mozhiu.
For Longleng, Bidesi Nayak took two wickets (conceded 33 runs) and Arjun Kumar Yadav claimed a wicket (conceded 28 runs)
Wokha won the match by seven wickets, and W. Thechamo Odyuo of the same team was declared Player of the Match for his six wicket haul for just 11 runs.
Mon vs Mokokchung report
In the match played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Mon scored a descent total of 182 runs for loss of 10 wickets in 42.4 overs, helped by 48 runs (65 balls) by Santosh Kumar and 32 runs (52 balls) by Renthungo Lotha. Mokokchung’s bowling attack was led by Andrew Ropmay with three wickets (27 runs) and two wickets by Vijay Rai (13 runs).
However, Mokokchung chased down the target in just 34.2 overs, scoring 188 runs for loss of six wickets. The main contributors for Mokokchung were Nihal Rai with 70 runs (83 balls) and Vijay Rai 51 runs (55 balls), while Mon’s bowling attack was led by Santosh Kumar who took three wickets and two wickets by Phaknyu Konyak.
Mokokchung won the by 4 wickets, and the Player of the Match was awarded to Nihal Rai for his contribution of 70 runs with the bat as well as two wickets.
Boys U-16 Inter-District Tournament
In Boys U-16 Inter-District Tournament, Kohima defeated Dimapur by 104 runs in a thrilling match played at Jakhama local ground.
The NCA updated that Kohima scored 143 runs in the first innings, while Dimapur scored 105 runs in reply. However, the former scored formidable 197 runs in the second innings to set a target of 235 runs.
Dimapur put up a valiant effort in their second innings but managed to score only 131 runs, thus conceding defeat to Kohima by 104 runs.
In the other match played at St. Xavier College Ground in Jalukie, Niuland scored 131 runs in the first innings, while Peren were bowled out a paltry 48 runs. Niuland then set a target of 171 runs after scoring 88 runs (all out) in their second innings.
Peren succumbed to the pressure as they were bowled out for 76 runs, thus conceding defeat to Niuland by 95 runs.
