Nagaland cricket team captain Jonathan Rongsen has been selected to play for Morecambe Cricket Club, an English cricket club based in Morecambe, Lancashire in the United Kingdom.

Rongsen confirmed this to Eastern Mirror over the phone, informing that he will play for the club for five months starting from April 17.

“Morecambe CC are pleased to announce the signing of a new professional Rongsen Jonathan for the 2021 season,” the club had announced. “Rongsen an experienced batsman who can bowl off spin currently plays for Nagaland in the Ranji Trophy and will join MCC as a replacement for Mitchel Van Buuren,” it added.

Rongsen informed this newspaper that he is currently in New Delhi for visa-related clearance and has an appointment on Tuesday for visa interview. He added that he could plan for travel to the UK only after visa clearance, which might take five to six days.

The right-hand batsman from Nagaland had played for Karnataka Premier League and is the first batsman from the Northeast to score a double century. He made his presence felt in the Ranji Trophy, becoming the first Naga to score a century as well as the first to score three consecutive centuries.
