DIMAPUR — Team Nagaland delivered a spirited and determined performance at the 5th 3x3 National Basketball Championship for men and women held in Delhi, etching their name into the history books of Nagaland basketball.
Placed in Group E alongside Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Assam, the Nagaland contingent showcased resilience, teamwork and individual brilliance to top their group and qualify for the pre-quarterfinals—a feat unprecedented in Nagaland’s basketball history, an update from Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA) stated.
In the first match on January 29, Nagaland defeated Chhattisgarh (21-11) and went on to defeat Himachal Pradesh (21–11), Jharkhand (21–4) and Assam (21–11).
However in the pre-quarterfinals, Nagaland bowed out to Karnataka with a score line of 11-17 in a hard-fought contest.

It stated that Nagaland’s campaign was not just about victories but breaking barriers and setting records. It added that topping their group and qualifying for the knockout stage was a first in Nagaland’s basketball history, proving that Naga cagers can excel in the fast-paced format of 3x3 basketball.
It expressed confidence that with the right support, Nagaland can become a national model for basketball development, inspiring generations to dream bigger and aim higher.
The NBA honourary secretary said, "This historic achievement is more than just a sporting milestone—it is a dream realised for Nagaland basketball. Our young players have shown courage, discipline and heart, proving that Nagaland can stand tall on the national stage. But their journey cannot end here. To truly build on this success, we need the unwavering support of our government, administrators, institutions, and private companies.
