Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): The patient from Dimapur, who was initially tested positive for Covid-19 at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), was discharged from the hospital on Friday after his fourth test had returned negative on April 28.
Eastern Mirror broke the news about the patient’s fourth Covid-19 test result on Thursday.
The patient’s father confirmed to this newspaper on Friday that his son had been discharged and would be under observation for 14 days. He will stay in Guwahati for those 14 day.
Assam’s minister for Health Himanta Biswa Sarma was also seen speaking to the patient in a Guwahati-based news channel.
‘You can go to Dimapur without stopping at all or stay in Kalabari for 14 days; they might not understand your case in Dimapur since it will be new to them but here the doctors know of your health and case,’ Sarma told the patient, in the news clip.
Welcoming the patient to stay at the centre in Kalabari, Sarma told him that he could leave for Dimapur anytime if he wants as long as the journey is non-stop from Guwahati.
Sarma also took to Twitter to announce the discharge of the patient from Nagaland.
Marwari Patti likely to be opened
The containment enforced at Marwari Patti area in Dimapur, which has been sealed since April 13 after one of its residents was reported to have tested Covid-19 positive, is likely to be lifted after May 4 even though surveillance will continue.
Marwari Patti (Kalibari Road), after being sealed off on April 13, has been declared an “orange zone” by the authorities.
The deputy commissioner (DC) of Dimapur, Anoop Khinchi, told Eastern Mirror that there will be relaxation and containment lifted after 21 days.
“On May 4, the containment period of 21 days will be completed and protocol is to keep (the area) under surveillance for 28 days,” said Khinchi.
The DC further said that even though it (Marwari Patti) was sealed, essential commodities and emergency services were still provided to the residents.
“There will be relaxation after the 21 days but family and residents who were under quarantine will still be observed,” maintained Khinchi.
