Nagaland Covid-19: Positive cases climb to 94

Nagaland reported 14 more Covid-19 positive cases on Friday, taking the total number of active cases to 94.

This was informed by the minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, through a social media update on Friday morning.

“14 new positive cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the last 24 hours out of the 235 samples tested. All the samples tested were from Chennai returnees,” the minister tweeted.

Nagaland recorded its first three Covid-19 positive cases on May 25. The fourth case was reported on May 26. Five more cases were recorded on May 27 taking the positive cases to nine.

The cases doubled as the state recorded a total of nine fresh cases, taking the tally to 18 on May 28.

Seven more returnees from Chennai were tested positive for Covid-19 on May 29, taking the count to 25 on Friday. Eleven more returnees tested positive for the virus on May 30, taking the count to 36.

The number of cases increased as seven more returnees tested positive for the virus on May 31, taking the tally to 43 in Nagaland.

No positive case was reported on June 1. However, six more returnees from Chennai tested positive for the virus on June 2, taking the total number of positive cases of Nagaland to 49.

Nine more tested positive for the virus on June 3, taking the tally to 58 in the state.

The state recorded its highest single-day increase on June 4 as 22 returnees from Chennai tested positive for the virus.

Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, in his daily Covid-19 briefing, informed that out of the 94 positive persons, 78 were asymptomatic and 16 were exhibiting mild symptoms.

Till date, 3883 samples have been sent for testing and results for 2365 have been received, out of which 94 have tested positive, he said.

“The results of the remaining samples are awaited. Through the TrueNat testing machines, so far, a total of 101 samples have been tested and all are negative. A total of 4607 persons are presently under facility quarantine,” Sinha informed.

Neiba Kronu, Minister for Planning and Co-ordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, along with Mmhonlumo Kikon, Advisor for IT, Science and Technology and NRE, both government spokespersons on Covid-19 issues, met with the District Task Force Dimapur, he informed.

Jacob Zhimomi, Minister for PHED; Tovihoto Ayemi, Advisor for Power; Zhaleo Rio, Advisor for Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs; and Azheto Zhimomi, MLA, also attended the meeting.

“Various issues of manpower and logistical concerns in the district and the need to identify Covid care centres for asymptomatic positive persons were discussed. The primary concern of arrangements for returnees and related issues were also deliberated. The efforts of team Dimapur were appreciated by everyone as Dimapur has been shouldering the responsibilities of almost all districts for weeks together.

“The CIHSR hospital, Dimapur was also visited by the State’s spokespersons along with others to explore avenues for assisting the state government efforts by the Referral Hospital, and the BSL-2 lab under construction was also inspected,” he said. Another special train carrying about 1300 stranded persons from Nagaland left Ahmedabad in Gujarat on Friday and will reach Dimapur on June 8, he added.
