DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Conservatory of Music (NCM) is gearing up to stage Victor Hugo's renowned musical ‘Les Misérables’, a timeless classic, at Lorin Hall, Tetso College in Chümoukedima from November 23 to the 25th.
This was announced by the Chairman of NCM, Lipokmar Tzudir during a press conference held at NCM School, Full Nagarjan in Dimapur on November 7.

Tzudir informed that the production of ‘Les Misérables’ is the result of a case study conducted by the Voice Department of NCM that culminated in a performance excerpt in 2021, which prompted the decision to produce the musical for educational purposes. And that it aims towards providing the entire region with an opportunity to witness such production-live.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Tzudir stated there is no dearth of talent in NCM needed for the production of "Les Miserables", however, the primary challenge lay in securing the necessary finances for staging it and fortunately, both TaFMA and NEZCC readily extended their support to the production when approached.
Analia Beauty graciously agreed to assist with artist preparations, while DMC and EPH also provided their sponsorship.
Furthermore, he mentioned that another challenge they faced was the lack of a suitable theater in Dimapur for hosting such events and the only viable option available was the hall at Tetso College, which they generously provided at reasonable charges.
Tzudir shared that for costume preparation; they started from scratch by recycling clothes and sourcing some items from second-hand stores and gradually started developing the stage props on their own.
The Chairman of NCM stated that after over 11 months of meticulous preparation, they are now fully prepared to present "Les Misérables" to the Nagaland audience, a three-day repeat performance at the same venue, so that maximum number of audience will be able to experience this rare musical in this region.
He also mentioned that the show is directed by Tiakumzuk Imchen and Vini Assumi with the support from core production team; Moanungsang Lonkumer will take care of the logistics and Lipokmar Tzudir will oversee the production execution.
The NCM's production of "Les Misérables" will be non-stop 1 hour 30 minutes performance, seamlessly blending music, dance, drama, comedy, tragedy and action and all the artistes participating in the musical production are either former or current students of NCM.
The dedicated production team comprises over 60 members, with 43 of them being singers.
Ticket availability is quite limited, as Lorin Hall at Tetso College can only accommodate only up to 400 individuals. The tickets will be made available upon request.
The first night of the musical event is designated as the "Patrons Night," allowing families to attend together and tickets were priced INR 5000 for four people, while for the second and third musical shows, tickets were priced at INR 2000 each, admitting two people.
