DIMAPUR — Y Nuklu Phom, a prominent conservationist from Nagaland, was recognised for his exemplary work in community-based conservation at The Commons Convening held at the Ambedkar International Center in New Delhi on August 27.

Phom, who was one of seven individuals shortlisted from India as “Changemakers for Commons,” was celebrated for his impactful efforts in leading the transition from hunting to wildlife conservation in Yaongyimchen village, Longleng district. This community-driven initiative has notably contributed to the increased protection of Amur falcons in the region, an update stated.

A recipient of the prestigious Whitley Award for biodiversity conservation in 2021, Phom also serves as the Team Leader of LEMSACHENLOK, a conservation organisation based in Longleng.

The Commons Convening is a collaborative effort between organisations including Common Ground, Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), UNDP India, and Collaborating for Resilience, which aims to highlight the vital role of shared resources in public discourse, promote civic engagement, and inspire collective action.

The Commons Convening event will continue until August 30, the update stated.
