Kohima, Sep. 26 (EMN):
In a bid to reach out to the unemployed youth of the country, Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) launched ‘Rozgar Do’ (give jobs) campaign on September 26 at Congress Bhavan, Kohima.

Speaking at the programme, national secretary of the Indian Youth Congress and in-charge of Nagaland, Sarifa Rahman, said that the youth Congress has launched a number 7998799854 so that “all the unemployed youth and all the people of this nation, who think that unemployment is an issue and be taken care of, should give a missed call on this number and join us in this massive campaign and raise your voice against the highest unemployment rate in the country”.

She claimed that people are suffering today because of the unplanned policies of the ruling government across the nation. She also claimed that “Modi government has miserably failed to help the poor, needy people, and the concerned citizens who actually voted the government”.

She said the country’s GDP during Modi government is 23.9%, while the GDP during Congress time was 10.8%. She attributed unplanned decisions for the failure of the government, which in turn has hampered the growth of youth in the country.

Taking a dig at the ruling government on the much-talked-about Swachh Bharat mission, she said not a single toilet has been constructed from Dimapur to Kohima. Also alleging that even the road conditions has been the same since the past five years, she questioned what the government has been doing all these years.

Also speaking on the occasion, NPYC president Vilhousielie Kengurüs alleged that the ruling People Democratic Alliance (PDA) government in Nagaland miserably failed to manage and control the price escalation of essential commodities during the global Covid-19 pandemic. He claimed that the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities from the first national lockdown till today have affected all particularly the common people of Nagaland.

He demanded that the government control the prices of all essential commodities and restore normalcy, while cautioning that the day is not far when the silent sufferers would explode and create mayhem.

“Surprisingly during this pandemic, tall claims of extending help and assistance towards stranded and migrant workers were made. However, the government has totally failed to address the basic needs of the daily wage earners, poor and downtrodden, and even the unemployed Naga youth were left unattended,” he claimed.

As per the available records from Employment department, the registered unemployed youth stands at 90,584 as on February 21, 2020, he stated and opined that government of the day has no concrete action plan as of now.

He urged the government to come out with concrete plans for the Naga youth cutting across all political barriers, which the central government has sanctioned for the unemployed youth through skill development, Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and many other employment scheme, programmes and projects.

“On June 15, Nagaland government announced through the Labour department that an amount of INR 3.80 crore has been extended assistance to 19,064 registered construction workers from cess fund by depositing INR 2000 each through direct transfer to their bank accounts. But the reality records obtained from Labour department shows only 9,716 have received INR 2000”, he claimed.

He went on to claim that the share of 9348 registered construction workers were embezzled or vanished. He also demanded to know why as many as 14,789 out of 24,455 registered construction workers were denied cess fund of INR 2000 each, which were actually allotted to them.

NPYC general secretary Isaac Ovung opposed the denial of a million of jobs promised by the Modi government. He added that NPYC would continue to oppose until the promises made by the Modi government is fulfilled before he was elected as the PM of India.
