DIMAPUR — Working president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), Khriedi Theünuo, said that the Nagas, as a minority, should discern which political party would be there to ‘look after them.’

“The candidate you vote for will reflect which policy you have accepted,” he said, during a rally at Landmark colony, Dimapur, on Thursday.

Referring to the upcoming Lok Sabha election, he opined that there are three candidates from the state, but only two candidates– Congress and NDPP candidate– will be in a serious competition.

Accusing the present ruling central government of ‘killing democracy,’ Theünuo said that Congress is a party that will promote secularism and democracy.

He also recalled how Congress candidate for the state in the last election lost by a small margin, as he received 48% of the votes.

Further, he said that religious intolerance is becoming very high, and pointed out that there are attacks on Christians even in the neighbouring state of Assam and Manipur. The people of the state should know who will solve such issues if it arises in the state, and elect such leaders, he added.

He claimed that some policies created by the BJP would affect the Nagas, and one such example is the policy of “one nation, one law, one religion.” He also said that the present government is trying to create fear among the opposition leaders by making allegations and arresting them.

He added that Lok sabha election is greater than the state general election as the members of parliament makes the law.

Short speeches were also delivered by representatives from NPCC women committee, Landmark colony council, and others during the rally programme.
