Nagaland conducts mock drill as COVID-19 cases spike in India
Kohima, April (11): Nagaland participated in a nationwide two-day mock drill in about 193 health facilities in the state, amid the continuing surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, officials said on Tuesday.
The mock drill was conducted to take stock of the state’s preparedness in regard to drugs, beds, including lCU beds; medical equipment, medical oxygen, capacity building of human resource on existing guidelines as well as vaccination coverage.
Commissioner and Secretary, department of Health and Family Welfare (DHFW), Kikheto Sema, informed Eastern Mirror that Health Minister, P Paiwang Konyak; Principal Director, Dr. Vibeituonuo M Sachu and officials, monitored the mock drill on Tuesday at Mon district hospital.
Sema informed they also visited the proposed site for the medical college in Mon during the day.
On visiting the medical college, they found out that the allotted land for the approach road was not feasible. As such, it was informed that the visiting team directed the administration to change the approach road leading to the medical college site, and accordingly implement it at the earliest. The consultant as well as the contractor was present at the medical college site, it was informed.
Sema said they visited the 90 acre land for the medical college and decided to redesign the construction of the medical college to G2 or G3 from the earlier proposed G plus 6 as Nagaland is under an earthquake seismic zone, among other reasons.
While inspecting the site, he also informed that the villagers and civil society organisations assured to extend full cooperation towards the construction of the college.
The state mock drill was conducted under the guidance of Health Minister, P Paiwang Konyak, Commissioner and Secretary, H&FW, Kikheto Sema and the Principal Director, DHFW, Dr. Vibeituonuo M Sachu, an update stated.
In all the districts, health units, both public and private sectors, participated in the mock drill with the guidance of the respective deputy commissioners, chief medical officers, medical superintendents, district surveillance officers and the district surveillance units of the IDSP, DHFW, it said.
It may be mentioned that 85 health units had participated in the last mock drill conducted on December 27, 2022.
