DIMAPUR — Condolences have poured in from various quarters following the demise of Imkong L Imchen, MLA and advisor for Information and Public Relations and Soil and Water Conservation, who passed away in Guwahati on Tuesday.


Y Patton: Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland Y Patton expressed deep sadness at the passing of Imchen, describing his death as the loss of one of Nagaland’s most respected and experienced leaders and a guiding presence within the BJP Nagaland family.


Patton said Imchen devoted his life to public service, earning the trust and respect of colleagues and citizens alike. He recalled Imchen’s belief in the promise of Nagaland—its people, culture, and future—and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying that the Almighty grant them strength during this difficult time.


P Paiwang Konyak: Minister of Health and Family Welfare P Paiwang Konyak, in his message, said he was deeply grieved by the passing of Imchen.

Paiwang described the late leader as more than a politician, calling him a “statesman of rare character” known for his humour, openness, and fearlessness.


He said Imchen’s legacy of honesty, service, and compassion would continue to inspire generations and extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and constituents.

G Kaito Aye: Minister of Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges) G Kaito Aye described Imchen as a senior statesman and a towering leader whose contribution to the people of Nagaland will be remembered with deep admiration.


He added that Imchen was a man of vision and conviction who dedicated his life in service of the people with sincerity, courage, and untiring commitment.


As convenor of the Central Nagaland Legislators Forum (CNLF), he said the forum mourns the loss of its co-convenor, whose steadfast dedication and leadership strengthened collective efforts.


KG Kenye: Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye said he was deeply pained and saddened by the demise of Imchen, calling him a seasoned politician and prominent figure in Nagaland who had represented the Koridang Assembly Constituency for five consecutive terms since 2003.


Kenye said Imchen’s passing was a great loss to the state and prayed for comfort and solace for the bereaved family.


H Sethrongkyu Sangtam: Advisor for IT&C, Economics and Statistics and Evaluation H Sethrongkyu Sangtam expressed profound sadness at the passing of Imchen, describing him as a seasoned statesman who held several key portfolios, including Rural Development, Power and IPR, School Education, Technical Education, Home, Health and Family Welfare, and Forest, Environment and Climate Change.


He noted Imchen’s contribution to the preservation of Nagaland’s heritage and to public communication, extending condolences to the bereaved family.


H Tovihoto Ayemi: MLA and Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election H Tovihoto Ayemi said he was deeply grieved by the passing of Imchen, calling him a veteran and seasoned politician whose contribution to governance would always be remembered.


Ayemi described Imchen as a personal inspiration, recalling his wisdom, warmth, and guidance. He extended condolences on behalf of the people of the 1 Dimapur-I Assembly Constituency and prayed for strength for the bereaved family.


Moatoshi Longkumer: Advisor for Labour, Employment and Skill Development and Excise Moatoshi Longkumer, in a eulogy, said Nagaland has lost a senior statesman and a man of rare wisdom, courage, and integrity.


He prayed that the Almighty grant peace and comfort to the family, loved ones, and all who mourn his loss.


NPF: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) expressed profound grief at the demise of Imchen, describing him as one of the senior legislators who continued serving the people until his last days.


The NPF noted his five-term tenure representing the Koridang constituency since 2003 and highlighted his contributions to governance, transparency, and rural development. The party conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.


NPP Nagaland: The National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Imchen, calling him a respected leader who dedicated his life to public service. The NPP said his political experience and commitment left an indelible mark on the state and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.


NPCC: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said it was deeply saddened by the passing of Imchen, noting that he had served as NPCC vice-president and DCC Mokokchung president. The committee said his contributions to the Congress would be remembered and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones.


JD(U): Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] Nagaland said Imchen was a remarkable leader whose outspoken, bold, and straightforward approach to governance inspired many. The party said his unwavering commitment to the people and tireless efforts to address their concerns would always be remembered and extended deepest sympathies to his family and friends.


Ex-PAN: The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) said it was shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Imchen’s demise, noting his service as one of the senior-most members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.


The association remembered him as a blunt and straightforward leader who always stood for what was right and extended condolences to his wife and family members.


Ao Senden: The Ao Senden said it was deeply shocked by the untimely demise after a brief illness of Imchen, noting he rose from the grassroots and served throughout his social and political life.


It recalled his service as Ao Senden vice-president (1993–94) and president (1994–96), describing him as dynamic, down to earth, and dedicated to the development and advancement of Nagaland.


NSF: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) mourned the passing of its former general secretary, Imchen, recalling his role in strengthening the student movement and his leadership in promoting unity among Naga youth.


The NSF described him as a visionary leader and mentor whose contributions to the student community and society would be remembered.


AKM: The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) said it was deeply saddened by the demise of Imchen, calling him a visionary leader and son of the soil who had dedicated his life to the Naga people. AKM recalled his tenure as AKM president (1982–84) and NSF general secretary (1983–85), acknowledging his guidance to students and youth.


DNSU: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Imchen, describing him as a remarkable leader whose life embodied leadership, wisdom, and dedication. DNSU recalled his tenure as NSF general secretary and said his legacy would continue to inspire generations.


KPC: The Kohima Press Club (KPC) recalled its last interaction with him in August in his office chamber at the Secretariat and said he showed great commitment toward addressing the issues and challenges faced by the media fraternity in the state. It said Nagaland had lost a visionary leader.


MPC: The Mokokchung Press Club (MPC) expressed grief at the passing of Imchen, acknowledging his contributions to governance and his cordial ties with the media fraternity. It extended condolences to the bereaved family.


DPC: The Dimapur Press Club (DPC) also extended condolences, describing Imchen as a senior legislator whose years in public service left a lasting impact.


LMFN: The Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland (LMFN) expressed deep condolences, recalling Imchen’s role in fostering unity between Naga and non-Naga communities and remembering him as a respected leader, gifted writer, and courageous speaker.


Neiba Kronu: Former minister Neiba Kronu said he was deeply saddened by the demise of Imchen, describing him as a veteran political leader and a prominent figure in Nagaland’s political landscape. Kronu said Imchen was an outspoken and dedicated leader who worked for the upliftment of society and extended condolences to the bereaved family.


K Therie: K Therie, former minister, expressed shock and sorrow at the untimely demise of Imchen, recalling their long association in the Congress party. Therie said Imchen had contributed exceptionally to the state through his courage and dedication and described his passing as a great loss to Naga society.


Dr. Roland Lotha: Social worker and politician Dr. Roland Lotha shared a personal tribute, recalling his last meeting with Imchen, who had encouraged him with words of kindness and wisdom. Lotha described him as a bold and dedicated leader and extended condolences to his family and supporters.
