Dimapur, Oct. 22 (EMN): The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval to declare the Foothill Road— a project currently underway in the state—as a National Highway. In a letter to Modi, the committee informed the prime minister that the project was started in 2013 after endorsement from all apex tribe hohos. The “extraordinary character of the project”, it stated, was that neither the landowners asked for compensation nor the Naga groups and local authorities levied taxes. “Having fully understood the aspirations of the Naga people, the chief minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio is diligently pursuing the project with utmost dedication and sincerity. Consequent upon which the project is already approved by the Ministry, and now the matter has already reached your table to be declared as National Highway,” it stated. The committee appealed to Modi to declare the same as National Highway at earliest.
