Nagaland coal revenue at INR 990 lakh in 2022-23

DIMAPUR — During the fiscal year 2022-23, the Department of Geology and Mining generated revenue of INR 990.31 lakh from the coal sector and credited the same to the government treasury.

The department provided this information in a report presented at the 43rd State Geological Programming Board (SGBP) meeting.

The department stated that they are implementing the Nagaland Coal Policy and Rules, 2006, and that the mining section of the department is supervising, monitoring, and administering the grant of Coal Prospecting Licence (CPL), Coal Mining Lease (CML), monitoring the mines, and collecting coal royalty from licensees, firms, coal operators, transporters, and others in order to expedite the disposal of mining lease applications.

According to the report, the department granted 12 CPL to private firms and individuals for coal exploration and prospecting works in Mon (4 CPL), Longleng (2 CPL), and Mokokchung (6 CPL) districts during 2022-23, and four CML for coal extraction to individuals and firms in Mon (3 CML) and Mokokchung (1 CML) districts.

As per the report, the department has outsourced coal royalty collection and coal depot licences to 11 firms, namely; M/s Nagaland Minerals and Mines (2 licences), M/s Sentiwapang and M/s Chingshei Phom in Mokokchung districts, M/s Liz Mekolee Enterprise, M/s Ngangjong Phom and M/s H Baujoi Phom in Longleng district, M/s Methlow Konyak and M/s Naoman Konyak in Mon district, and M/s Manthungo Kikon in Wokha district, during the year 2022-23.
