Kohima, July 18 (EMN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday said the government would stick to its earlier decision, which is to extend the superannuation age of medical doctors to 62 years under the condition of re-employment in the clinical sector.
Rio said this while speaking to journalists after casting his vote for the 15th President of India at the Assembly Secretariat, Kohima on July 18.
He added that that everybody can demand for their rights but the ‘state government will examine and take decisions.’
Earlier in April, the state government had taken the decision to increase the superannuation age of medical doctors from 60 to 62 years; and allow medical officers who want to serve the public further through government hospitals or teaching hospitals up to 62 years and 70 years respectively.
NIDA suspends proposed agitation
Meanwhile, a day after the governor of Nagaland invoked the Nagaland Essential Services (Maintenance) Act, 1978 and prohibited the Nagaland In-Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) from ceasing work, the association on Monday suspended its proposed agitation for one week.
“The proposed NIDA agitation was to take off on 18th July 2022 because of no response from the Government even after a gap of 3 months regarding clarification of Cabinet decision pertaining to NIDA’s demand for increase in superannuation age of 62 years for all,” read its press release.
“As the association received a notification from the government in the 11th hour, the agitation has been kept in suspended animation for 1 week w.e.f 19th July 2022. During this period of 1 week, the members will study the notification thoroughly and get back to the Government for any clarification and rectification for wider acceptance to the NIDA fraternity,” it added.
It went on to thank ‘all the organisations for its support in the various media platforms to its legitimate demands’.
