DIMAPUR— Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed sadness over the demise of former Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh High Court, WA Shishak, who passed away at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, on Thursday at the age of 82.

In his condolence message to Rialeno Phizo Shishak, wife of the deceased, the CM said that Shishak was not only a renowned judge but also someone who stood firmly against human rights violations and advocated truth and justice throughout his career.

“Although he had made laurels to his name, he was humble and kind. As such, he was highly respected by all and his life is an inspiration to many. It may be mentioned that when he was serving the Government of Nagaland as a Senior Government Advocate, he executed his duties with utmost diligence and honesty.

“Upon his demise, Naga society has lost a guardian, a father figure, and a legal luminary of renown. The void created by his absence will be difficult to fill. He will be truly missed but let us treasure and celebrate his life and it is my humble prayer that his legacy will be carried on,” read the condolence message.

Conveying deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, he prayed that God gives them comfort and courage to bear the irreparable loss and the departed soul rest in peace. Born in 1941 at Shangshak village in Ukhrul district, Manipur, Shishak started his practice in Gauhati High Court in 1967 and went on to serve the government of Nagaland for seven years and as president of the Nagaland Bar Association. He later became a judge of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, before serving as the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court and Himachal Pradesh High Court.
