Nagaland civil organisations condemn firing incident that injured 2 Assam Riffles soldiers

Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): Several civil society organisations in Nagaland have condemned the shooting incident at Nyasa in Mon district between the Assam Rifles (AR) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland led by Yung Aung (NSCN K-YA), where two AR jawans sustained injuries on Monday.

The Nyasa Village Council and Nyasa Students’ Union strongly condemn “the barbaric and coward act of the self-styled insurgent factional group” in the heart of Nyasa village, “creating tense environment situation in the village on the eve of 75th Independence Day Celebration along with the rest of India”.

‘The village council, student union and the citizen of Nyasa strongly oppose and condemn this havoc act and will serve non-cooperation to any insurgent groups creating such like situation in and around the village in the near future,’ read the statement.

ENPO flays firing incidents

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) along with the seven federating tribal bodies and frontal organisations vehemently condemned the August 9 firing incident at ITC DAN and August 15 at Nyasa village and Longwa villages, reportedly by NSCN (K-YA).

The incidents, it said, were totally contrary to 2007 ‘Tuensang Summit Resolution’ based on people’s desire for peace and tranquility within ENPO jurisdiction after having experienced years of hardships and violence

‘Further, any group/individual should not take advantage of the tolerance level of the public of eastern Nagaland, and thus, reminded that people of eastern Nagaland need development instead of arm conflicts, and that, our land should not be targeted for firing and use it as battle field. It is therefore, reminded that in the event of non-compliance of the popular Tuensang Summit Resolution, the entire public of eastern Nagaland will not tolerate any violence or activities that hampers the extant peaceful atmosphere in the region,’ it stated.

It once again reminded to all concerned to honour the sentiments of public for peace and tranquility in the region.

Konyak civil societies condemn

The Konyak Civil Societies (KCS) under the aegis of Konyak Union (KU) expressed dismay over the “dastardly act even after repeated appeals and request were made time and again to all parties to desist from such act in the Konyak areas”.

Condemning the firing incident, reiterated once again that “Konyak areas shall not be used as battleground by any party”.

It also appealed to all parties to uphold 2007 ENPO resolution in letter and spirit.

“At a time when human civilisations across the globe is yearning for peaceful resolution to conflicts of any nature, it is extremely unfortunate that violence had been used to make a point. Violence in any form and nature cannot be condoned by the Konyak Naga people. Through this column, the Konyak civil societies urge the NSCN-K (YA) to refrain from violence and come to table for peaceful resolution of the impending Naga issue,” it stated.
