Dimapur, Oct. 14 (EMN):
In the backdrop of the alleged Hathras rape and murder case, some citizens from Nagaland have started a movement to help curb the growing crimes against women in India by offering free lift to people in need of transportation at night and those in distress.

It may also be mentioned that a total of 45,536 rape cases were under investigation in India in 2019 alone, according to the National Crime Records Bureau.

What started as a post on Facebook has created a chain reaction for a “rape-free India” here in Dimapur.

Aneiba Thou made waves on social media platforms after he offered, through a Facebook post, pick up and drop of any person facing problem at night in the commercial hub.

“Any persons, elders, younger sister or a lady facing problems in transportation at night or any problems or not feeling safe, I am ready to help, so call or SOS me anytime. I will be there 24×7. Just call and say I need your help. I’ll be there. We believe together we can bring the change and we will change this and dream of a safe and rape-free India,” posted Thou on Facebook along with his personal details and contact number.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Thou, a constable at the Commissioner of Police’s office in Dimapur, shared that he saw a friend’s post offering the services and was encouraged to do the same.

“It is like a chain now, many are doing the same here in Dimapur; anywhere anytime, I am willing to help,” maintained Thou.

He has two daughters aged two and four, while his wife is a homemaker.

“I want my children to be brought up in a world with no crime done against women; our society has not faced such a severe situation but I want to bring awareness and help people,” said Thou.

Willing to bear all expenses that include not just time and fuel, he maintained that he would try to help anyone in need as much as possible.

“If I am busy or cannot make it, I will entrust a friend to go and help that person who needs to be picked up and dropped,” informed Thou.

When asked how he would handle prank calls or if he comes across people in an inebriated state, Thou was quick to respond that it would depend on assessing the phone call and situation.

“I am expecting a lot of prank calls or unnecessary avoidable situations but that is bound to happen and I am still willing to help in dropping even if they are drunk,” said Thou.

“Just like how I was encouraged to do this, I hope others are also inspired to help fulfil the dream of a rape-free and safe India,” said Thou.

“Wherever you are just remember Naga brothers are always ready to help and don’t feel any fear,” asserted Thou.
