Nagaland Chief Secretary Temjen Toy passes away

Kohima, Jan. 28 (EMN):
Nagaland Chief Secretary Tali Temjen Toy passed away on Thursday at his official residence in Kohima after a prolonged illness. He was 57.

Having been diagnosed with cancer last year, he had been undergoing treatment and had recently returned to Nagaland from Delhi.

Toy is survived by his wife, Ruovi, and four children—two sons and two daughters.

He was from Changki village in Mokokchung district.

Toy assumed the charge as Nagaland’s Chief Secretary on March 2018. He belonged to the 1989 batch of IAS cadre and had served the government in various capacities.

Prior to his diagnosis, it was under his leadership that Nagaland state Covid-19 ‘War Room’ had been set up to combat the coronavirus pandemic in Nagaland.

Toy’s mortal remains will be taken to his father’s residence at AG Colony in Kohima.

A state funeral is being scheduled at his official residence in Kohima at 12 noon on January 29.

All government offices in Kohima will be closed tomorrow to enable government employees to pay their last repsects to the departed soul.

Ao Senden also issued a statement directing all government and private offices, schools and markets to be closed on January 29 to mourn Toy’s demise.

Chief Minister, Governor condoles

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter to express sadness at the demise of the chief secretary.

“I am extremely saddened at the passing away of @temjentoy, Chief Secretary of Nagaland. He was a humble, upright and dedicated government servant”, he wrote.

Rio added that his death is a huge loss for the Govt. of Nagaland and for the Nagas as a whole. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to his family.

Governor RN Ravi in a condolence message to Late Toy’s wife expressed shocked at the untimely demise of the chief secretary.

“We have lost an able administrator and one of the finest human being. He was a warm hearted and a cheerful human being. As an administrator, he was always willing to take on difficult responsibilities and made his mark as a conscientious public servant. His contribution to the people of Nagaland in various assignments will be remembered for ever”, he wrote.

The governor prayed that Almighty God give strength and fortitude to his wife and family members to bear the devastating loss.
