Kohima, Feb. 11 (EMN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) is set to launch its election campaign for the upcoming Manipur assembly polls at Senapati next week.
Sources informed that Nagaland Chief Neiphiu Rio will address the gathering at the event and several NPF leaders will speak as well.
The NPF has fielded 10 candidates for the 60-member Legislative Assembly, for which polling will be held on February 28 and March 5.
NPF Legislature Party leader TR Zeliang, who is also the chairman of United Democratic Alliance (UDA), had said two days ago that the NPF would kick off its campaign in Senapati on February 16 and expressed hope that Rio would join the event.
The NPF had earlier requested the chief minister to campaign for NPF candidates contesting in the Manipur polls, taking into consideration the UDA government in Nagaland as well as the NPF-BJP alliance in Manipur.
Subsequently, it was decided at the joint parliamentary meeting of the UDA comprising all the ruling parties — NDPP, BJP, NPF, and independent candidates – that Rio would campaign for NPF candidates contesting in the Manipur assembly elections.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Land Revenue and Planning and Co-ordination Neiba Kronu, also confirmed that Rio would campaign in Manipur.
