Nagaland Chief Minister Rio inaugurates polytechnic institute in Longleng
Says 40% of PMGSY scheme invested in ENPO area
Dimapur, Dec. 17 (EMN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday said the target of his government is providing equal share of development in the state irrespective of districts and tribes.
Addressing the gathering during the inauguration of Polytechnic Hukphang in Longleng district, he said the eastern Nagaland area may be lagging behind in terms of literacy due to various reasons but is moving forward at par with other districts in the development sector.
The chief minister informed that out of the 10 polytechnic institutes in the state, three of them are in Mon, Tuensang and Longleng under Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) area.
While congratulating the department and the people of Longleng district for completing the polytechnic institute project as committed by his government, he expressed optimism that it will benefit the people in shaping their destination with their available technical skills, as education is the backbone for any kind of development.
Highlighting various infrastructure developments under ENPO jurisdiction, Rio said that 40 percent of the PMGSY scheme has been invested in the development of ENPO area. He informed that the construction of National Highway from Mon to Dimapur via Pangsha, Noklak, Kiphire and Zunheboto is underway, and another foothill road project along with rail connectivity from Tizit under Mon district to Dimapur is also in progress.
The chief minister also announced that a civil engineering college in Longleng with initial intake of 30 students will be launched in the district shortly, which will be followed up in other districts. He went on to express confidence that the institute will become a reputed on through the contribution and co-operation of the department, institution, landowners and public leaders of the district.
Requesting the people to take responsible roles and ownership of the polytechnic institute, he said establishment of any kind of institutes will be a failure without the co-operation and support of the local people.
Pointing out that Longleng is the gateway for the people of Tuensang, Aboi, Tobu and Mon, Rio said the existing development of good road connectivity in the district will contribute to the economic growth of the people. He added that four administrative headquarters have been upgraded to full-fledge districts, including Longleng.
On the occasion, Rio also informed the gathering about Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) and urged the people to avail the insurance card from the district administration and hospitals in the district. He said the insurance covers every citizen of the state with INR 5 lakh per family and INR 20 lakh per family for government employees.
On the Chief Minister Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) scheme launched for the unemployed youths, he said the main purpose of the programme was to create job opportunities and urged the people to avail it.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom; advisor to CM for Technical and Education and Election department, Medo Yhokha; DC Longleng, Dharam Raj; and Hukphang Village Council chairman, also spoke on the occasion.
