Nagaland Chief Minister inspects tunnel construction of Kohima-bypass road

Dimapur, May 13 (EMN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday inspected the Kohima-bypass road at Meriema in Kohima to oversee the construction work of the 500-metre-long tunnel at the site.

Rio interacted with the villagers of Meriema and sought their co-operation and support for successful and timely completion of the project during the visit, informed an update from DIPR, which added that the villagers assured their help and support in every possible way.

The inspection team was briefed about the progress of works, technical details as well as various challenges and problems by the officials of NHIDCL led by its Executive Director, Regional Office, Kohima, MS Deol and General Manager, PMU, Jakhama, SP Singh.

“The tunnel, situated near the High Court Junction, Meriema, will be 500 metres long with a width of 11 metres and height of 5.5 metres (vertical clearance). The tunnel is part of the two-lane Kohima-bypass road connecting NH-39 (New NH-02), NH-150 (New NH-02), NH-61 (New NH-29) and NH-39 (New NH-02) from design km 10.500 to design km 21.00 (design length-10.500 km) under the SARDP-NE on EPC Mode (Package II),” the update stated.

It added that the CM was accompanied by a host of officials including Principal Secretary to CM, KD Vizo; Principal Secretary, Works and Housing, Menukhol John; and Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie during the inspection.
