Nagaland celebrates Republic Day with gusto

Government and educational institutions spread across Nagaland celebrated the 73rd Republic Day on January 26. Elected representatives have unfurled the national flag in various district headquarters, while cultural presentations by the different tribes have added colours to the celebrations.

Dimapur: Minister of Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue, Parliamentary Affairs, Neibu Kronu, informed that the Public Work Department (PWD) would soon start the work of widening NH-2 for 24 km from Tsungiki Bazaar to Izheteo, and the widening work for 59 km on NH-2 from Alichen to Ungma, Mokokchung to Yisemyong and Unger to Tuli and added that strengthening of NH-29 (Dimapur city) has been sanctioned.

Kronu said this during the 73rd Republic Day celebration at DDSC stadium, Dimapur on Wednesday. He added that Nagaland State Transport (NST) department has taken up construction of a heliport in Chümoukedima.

Kronu also informed that a total of 1281 oxygen beds, 163 ICU beds including 97 beds with ventilators have been set up by the Health and Family Welfare department adding that every district has been provided with at least one PSA oxygen generator plant.

Maintaining that the department of School Education had successfully conducted digital education in the previous year, he informed to continue imparting education to students during Covid lockdown.

He also informed that the Nagaland State Agriculture Marketing Board (NSAMB) under the Agriculture and allied department had purchased and sold more than 210 metric tons (MT) of organic vegetables from all the districts till date and also exported 5.12 MT of horticulture products outside Nagaland during 2021.

He added that the department of Soil and Water Conservation has set up static soil testing laboratories in 11 districts, adding that installation of mini laboratories for 74 blocks would be launched on January 26.

Kronu also stated that an amount of INR 7 crore was allocated under chief Minister’ corpus fund during 2021-22 and 47 tractors were purchased and distributed to genuine farmers. He further informed that financial assistance to 22 entrepreneurs were provided for self-employment.

Mokokchung: Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, hoisted the national flag on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day celebration at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung town.

He also took the Rashtriya salute from four parade contingents comprising DEF Mokokchung, 2nd NAP, Home Guards, and Ex-Servicemen led by assistant commandant of 2nd NAP, N Mayang, as parade commander and API of DEF Mokokchung, Tekatemjen, as second parade commander.

Martial arts demonstration by Mokokchung District Martial Arts Association and presentation of cultural items by Gorkha Union of Mokokchung and Wadir Club of Ungma were other highlights of the programme. The Speaker also inaugurated the exhibition stalls of different departments.

Zunheboto: Health minister, S Pangnyu Phom hoisted the national flag at Zunheboto public ground and inspected six parade contingents led by deputy superintendent of police Tongpang Ao as the first commander and ABSI Akoba Sangtam as the second commander.

The six contingents included DEF, Home Guards, NAP, Ex-servicemen and Cornerstone School. Pangnyu also inaugurated the exhibition stalls initiated by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).

The programme culminated with beating of retreat by 32 Assam Rifles, Zunheboto.

After the programme, Pangnyu visited the District Hospital, Zunheboto. During the visit, Pangnyu and the deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo, took the precautionary dose (Covid booster).

Wokha: MLA Dr. Chumben Murry hoisted the national flag on the 73rd Republic Day celebration at Wokha local ground and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents comprising of 7th NAP Bhandari, DEF Wokha, and Home Guards and Civil Defence. The parade contingents were led by assistant commandant of 7th NAP, Ashito Aye, as the parade commander and ABI of DEF Wokha, Temsumongba, as the second parade commander.

On the occasion, the chief guest also gave away district-level commendation awards to government officials and NGO in recognition of their outstanding service. He also inaugurated the stalls set up by various departments and self-help groups.

Kiphire: Kiphire district celebrated the 73rd Republic Day at Kiphire public ground with MLA, T Yangseo, as the chief who also hoisted the national flag took the Rashtriya salute from five parade contingents.

Prizes were also awarded to tobacco-free institutions, 100% Covid-19 vaccinated villages, best performance health units, best performing nurses and best performing Asha on the occasion. Visitations were carried out by different departments.

Peren: Advisor of Industries and Commerce, Labour and Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Imnatiba, hoisted the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from two parade contingents on the occasion of Republic Day celebration held in the office complex of the deputy commissioner in Peren.

Other highlights of the day included folk dance by Inbung youth and students cultural troupe and Samziuram youngsters cultural troupe and a song was presented by Yipungchule Ndang. The programme culminated with the beating of retreat by DEF Peren.

Phek: Phek district celebrated the 73rd Republic Day with MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu as the special guest, who also unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents.

Nienu also felicitated local champions under Beti Bachao BetiPadhao and inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up by various departments.

To mark the occasion, a departmental penalty shoot-out was organised and culminated with the beating of retreat by 38 Assam Rifles, Phek.

Noklak: The 73rd Republic Day at Noklak headquarters was celebrated with the minister of PWD (Housing and Mechanical), Tongpang Ozukum, as the chief guest.

Tongpang hoisted the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents. Highlights of the programme included tug-of-war between DBs and GBs Vs Noklak Police and cultural dance performed by New Pangsha Village guards.

The minister also gave away the prize for the best Christmas decoration to Kiamngan ward, High School ‘B’ ward and High School ‘A’ ward.

The minister also visited the undergoing construction of roads and bridges office in Noklak town.

Chümoukedima: Chumoukedima district celebrated the 73rd Republic Day at Chumoukedima town public ground with MLA Azheto as the special guest. He unfurled the tri- colour and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents.

Other highlights of the programme included presentation of Angami folk song by the residents of Tenyiphe-I and Sumi folk dance by a cultural troupe from Thilixu village.

Shamator: Shamator district celebrated the 73rd Republic Day with V Kashiho Sangtam, minister of Soil and Water Conservation, Geology and Mining, as the special guest. He unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents. The Lunsoberü Cultural Society and Mungtsüwung Cultural Troupe added colours to the celebrations by presenting cultural items on the occasion.


Mon: The 73rd Republic Day was reported peacefully observed across Mon district. A DIPR report stated that a peaceful celebration of the events were received from ADC in Aboi, Tizit, Tobu and Naginimora, and SDO Civil of Wakching, Chen, Angjangyang, Monyakshu and Phomching. In the district headquarters, the occasion was observed at Mon town local ground. The programme began with the parade review by the superintendent of police, Mon, Imnalensa, while the ceremonial flag hoisting was performed by the deputy commissioner of Mon, Thavaseelan K. Parade contingents including 6th NAP, DEF Mon, Village Guards and 6th NAP Pipe Band led by parade commander, Seyiechulhou, assistant commandant of 6th NAP took part in the event.

Tuensang: MLA Toyang Chang hoisted the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day celebration held at Tuensang parade ground as the chief guest.

On the occasion, district commendation awards were given to seven individuals namely Imjonglepba Chang, Tekatoshi, Rozikyu Sangtam, C Chuba Chang, Sentiyangla, Puti Yanger, and Imti Wabang Sangtam.

Longleng: Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, hoisted the national flag and inspected the ceremonial parade at Longleng local ground on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day celebration.

The highlights of the celebration included the inauguration of exhibition stalls, inauguration of a district static soil testing laboratory at the office of District Soil Conservation Officer, Longleng. Imna also visited Yingli College and interacted with the faculty members.

Niuland: PHED minister, Jacob Zhimomi, unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from parade contingents on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day celebration held at Niuland public ground.

Highlights of the programme included presentation of ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ by Alino K Chishi, choreography by Sumi Baptist Church of Niuland, cultural fusion by Shepherd Montessori School, speech by Vipeni from Shepherd Montessori School, song presentation by students of Reginald Hughes Memorial School and skit by Lutoli and Tosheni.

Gorkha dance, folk song by women of Niuland Medical Colony and men folk dance by P Vizheto village have added colours to the celebrations.

Tseminyu: Advisor of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Women Resources Development, R Khing, unfurled the national flag on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day celebration at Rengma Sports Association Ground in Tseminyu town. The chief guest also took the Rashtriya salute from three parade contingents.

An update from the deputy commissioner of Tseminyu stated that an approximate 500 people including government officials, public leaders, and representatives from NGO attended the programme.

The programme was marked with a cultural presentation by Tseminyu Tsipwen Cultural troupe and Tesophenyu village and a song by Andrew Thong. The chief guest also inaugurated the exhibition stalls organised by various departments and SHG under Tseminyu district.

JSSN: Janjati Shiksha Samiti Nagaland with VBIDH School celebrated the 73rd Republic Day at the office premises of Janjati Shiksha Samiti, Kevijau village, Dimapur. Dr. Vekho Swuro, president of BISS Nagaland, and Nokchi Jamir, chairman of Kevijau village council, were guest speakers. Gaon Buras and secretary of Kevijau village council also graced the programme.

PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, observed the 73rd Republic Day celebration in its premises wherein the tri-colour was hoisted by the school’s principal Monoj Bhattacharjee. Group song presentation by the teachers, short speech by the school’s vice principal AK Roy, and speech by the principal were the highlights of the programme. Monoj Bhattacharjee advised the teaching, non–teaching staff and the students to exercise their voting rights in choosing their government democratically and be mentally and physically prepared for attaining common goals in life.

SSNP: Sainik School Punglwa, Nagaland (SSPN) celebrated the 73rd Republic Day with active participation of staff and day-scholar cadets. The chief guest and officiating principal, Lt. Cdr. T Khongsai, unfurled the tri-colour followed with singing of the national anthem.

In his address, the chief guest urged the staff and cadets to pledge and devote themselves to the making of India that the freedom fighters and visionaries dreamt of and also to reaffirm their commitment to unity in diversity, fraternity and equality among all citizens.
