Nagaland celebrates Independence Day with gusto

Nagaland celebrated the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence Day on August 15 by organising various programmes including presentation of cultural items and felicitating achievers in different fields.

Dimapur: In Dimapur, the Independence Day celebration was graced by the PHED minister, Jacob Zhimomi, held at the Dimapur District Sports Complex (DDSC).

Jacob hoisted the national flag and also took salute from the parade contingents comprising personnel from the office of the commissioner of police, 15th NAP IR Mahila, Excise directorate, Nagaland Home Guards and NAP IR Mahila battalion.

On the occasion, Jacob Zhimomi gave away certificates to villages/ colonies which have achieved 100% fist dose Covid vaccination. A total of 13 villages/ colonies including Aoyimkum, Rilan, 5th Mile Model village, Hokhezhe, Hoito, Khopanal, Singrijan, Tir, Molvom, East Police colony, Jharnapani, Khughovi and Xuvishe colony were felicitated for achieving 100% Covid vaccination.

The minister also distributed certificates to the best performance villages under the National Food Security Act, 2013. Awards were also given to the best performing fair price shops.

The event also saw a presentation of a song by Kevizhapu Kire and a war dance by Ethnic Performing Arts followed by a group song by Musik-A school.

Noklak: Minister of Soil and Water Conservation, Geology and Mining, V Kashiho Sangtam, hoisted the national flag at Noklak headquarters and also took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents comprising of DEF/ 3rd NAP Noklak, village guards from Yokao/ Panso and Aniashu.

Highlights of the day included presentation of district commendation awards.

Students who have qualified for admission into Sainik School, Punglwa, as well as winners of the open online quiz competition were also felicitated on the occasion.

A cultural item was also presented by the village guards of Yokao village.

Tuensang: The 75th anniversary of India’s Independence Day celebration programme in Tuensang was graced by the advisor of Power, Tovihoto Ayemi as the chief guest.

On the occasion, the chief guest took the Rashtriya salute from five parade contingents comprising of DEF Tuensang, 3rd NAP, VG Ngangpong, VG Kuthur, and 3rd NAP Pipe band. The chief guest also gave away awards to nine individuals.

Cultural items were presented by Chang cultural troupe, Sangtam cultural troupe and Yimchunger cultural troupe. The chief guest also inaugurated an exhibition stall set up by Agri. and Allied departments of Tuensang.   

Longleng: Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Sharingain Longkumer, graced the 75th India’s Independence Day celebration in Longleng in a programme held at Longleng public ground.

The chief guest hoisted the national flag and took salute from five contingents comprising DEF Longleng, 12th NAP (IR) Chingtok, village guards from Yaongyimchen and Yachem, Yingli College and students of Government Higher Secondary School.

On the occasion, the chief guest also gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions. He also inaugurated exhibition stalls set up by various government agencies, NGOs and SHGs.

Phek: Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, graced the 75th Independence Day celebration held at Phek local ground as the special guest.

He hoisted the national flag and took Rashtriya salute from four parade contingents including 22 Assam Rifles, Phek DEF, 5th NAP, and Home Guards and civil defence, Phek.

The highlights of the programme included presentation of songs by Kuluvelu Swuro and Nuta D Vadeo and friends, folk songs by Pochury women hoho, and folk dances from Jericho II Colony Youth and Phek village cultural troupe.

The special guest also inaugurated exhibition stalls put up by DRDA, Agriculture department, Horticulture department, Fishery department, Atma, NRLM, Sericulture department, Land Resources department, DLCW-MSK, Eatery Pastry, district legal service authority, Veterinary department, North East Network, Chizami, and Entrepreneur Associate.

A special medical camp was also organised at Town Hall, Phek.

Wokha: The 75th Independence Day celebration in Wokha was graced by the minister of Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue, and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu, as the chief guest.

Other highlights of the day included feeding of inmates of Sub-Jail by DLSA, patients at Mhondamo Memorial District Hospital by Wokha District Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital by SBI, Wokha (Main Branch) and 40th Assam Rifles Hospital by All Nagaland Taxi Union, Wokha.

Cultural items were also presented by Soying cultural group from Elumyo village, Zuvotong cultural group from Humtso village and songs presentation by Zacheo Jeru Ezung and Lobeno Tungoe.

Peren: Peren district celebrated the 75th Independence Day at the deputy commissioner’s office complex with the advisor of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science and Women Resources Development, R Khing, as the special guest.

The special guest hoisted the national flag and took Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents comprising of 36th Assam Rifle (band party), DEF Peren, 9th IRB, Saijang, All Saints Higher Secondary School, and Peren Goverment College (NCC).

Folk songs and dances were presented by Jalukie dancing troupes and a song by Kizaiwi Mpom.

The day was also observed in Ahthibung, Jalukie and Tening sub-divisions.

Mon: State minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom graced the 75th Independence Day celebration at Mon town local ground as the chief guest.

He hoisted the national flag and saluted the parade contingents comprising DEF Mon, 6th NAP, village guards and 6th NAP pipe band led by parade commander and assistant commandant, Seyiechulhou.

On the occasion, Dr. Neiphrezo Sorunuo received the principal director’s commendation award under the department of Health and Family Welfare, while six villages namely Sangsa, Mohung Changai, Sowa Chagle, Obay, Leanghah and Chingphoi received awards for achieving 100% first dose Covid vaccination.

Kiphire: Minister of Housing and Mechanical, Tongpang Ozukum graced the 75th Independence Day celebration in Kiphire as the special guest.

The special guest hoisted the national flag and took salute from four parade contingents comprising village guards from Kiphire village, DEF Kiphire, 14th IR Battalion and 41st AR Battalion.

Prizes were given away to the winners of the speech competition, essay writing, painting and debate competitions.

“Kiphire’s Mango Tea” was also launched by the special guest in presence of the deputy commissioner, T Wati Aier and other dignitaries. The special guest also visited Shalom Children Home and Kiphire District Disability Association.

Mokokchung: Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation and Land Resources, P Paiwang Konyak, hoisted the national flag at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung town as the chief guest.

Four contingents and a band party from 2 NAP Alichen partook in the parade. The parade contingent was led by Pholosing Sangtam, deputy SP.

The chief guest also gave away the district awards. Recipients of the awards included MTBA Eleos Initiative for their response in providing free daily nutritious meals at the Covid Care Centre, Aotsung Ozukum and Moamongba for their response to the Covid-19 pandemic in the district in ferrying positive patients and high risk contacts to hospital, Limanungsang Kichu for social service, nine villages for achieving 100 percent vaccination.

The district level centre for women- Mahila Shakti Kendra (BBBP) also felicitated Moanola Longchar (11th topper of HSLC 2021) and Yashijungla (16th topper of HSLC 2021).

Cultural items were presented by Medem Ruju cultural club from Mongsenyimti village, Sumi Union Mokokchung town and Konyak Union Mokokchung town.

The minister also inaugurated a district level exhibition organised by Atma, in collaboration with Agri & Allied departments and district administration.

Zunheboto: Zunheboto district observed the 75th Independence Day at Zunheboto local ground with the advisor of School Education, KT Sukhalu, as the chief guest.

He also took Rashtriya salute from seven parade contingents led by Tongpang Ao, assistant commandant. On the occasion, the Horticulture department presented certificates and cash awards to six progressive farmers.

Dimapur Congress: Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) and the NPCC minority wing observed the 75th India’s Independence Day in its office on August 15. An update from the party informed that NPCC vice president, V Lasuh, hoisted the national flag on the occasion. The programme was jointly organised by DDCC and NPCC minority department. DCCI working president, Kutoho Chishi, delivered the vote of thanks.

Lions Club Dimapur: Lions Club of Dimapur celebrated the 75th India’s Independence Day by organising a marathon race from NL Road to Purana Bazaar on the theme ‘Welcoming back our successful Olympians’ on August 15. The marathon race was followed with hoisting of the national flag and singing of the national anthem. 

Sainik School: The Sainik School in Punglwa celebrated the 75th Independence Day with the school’s principal, Capt. Prasun Basu, as the chief guest who also hoisted the national flag. In his short speech, the chief guest reminded of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters for a free independent India. He also exhorted the cadets to follow the footsteps of cadet Sumwang Wangsa, who recently passed out from NDA and joined the Military Academy.

To mark the occasion, various events were also organised in the school. On August 14, the school organised online quiz and essay writing competitions besides visiting the family members of Capt. N Kenguruse.

The school also organised a health run-cum-cleanliness drive on August 15.

Yemhi Memorial College: Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Yemhi Memorial College also observed the 75th India’s Independence Day celebration in which the national flag was unfurled by the college’s principal, Dr. Kaba Daniel.

In his brief speech, the principal exhorted the gathering to be true patriots and uphold all moral values as enshrined in the Indian constitution. He concluded his speech by quoting the words of John F Kennedy “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”.

An update from the college stated that NCC girls wing cadets and NSS boys sang the national anthem.

Nagaland House Delhi: Commemorating the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence celebration, the additional chief secretary and chief resident commissioner, Jyoti Kalash, hoisted the national flag at the Nagaland House, New Delhi.

In his short speech, Kalash stated that India has made progress in every walk of life since its independence 75 years ago. He also mentioned that Nagaland was awarded the best law and order state in India in 2020.

A report from the PRO, Kuolie Mere, informed that around 100 staff attended the flag hoisting programme.

DBSU: The Dimapur Bengali Students’ Union (DBSU) observed the 75th India’s Independence Day in its office building by hoisting the national flag on Sunday. During the programme, DBSU wished for a new tomorrow.
