Nagaland celebrates 77th Independence Day with fervour
Government offices along with educational institutions in Nagaland celebrated the 77th India’ Independence Day with patriotic fervour
DIMAPUR — Government offices along with educational institutions in Nagaland celebrated the 77th Independence Day with patriotic fervour. Display of cultural items, exhibition of stalls and pledge for a drug-free Nagaland were the highlights of the celebrations.
Mokokchung
Minister of Women Resources Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, unfurled the national flag at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung town and took the Rashtriya salute from 11 parade contingents.
On the occasion, the district commendation awards for meritorious service to six individuals were also given away by the minister. The recipients are Tekamera R Keitzar, Jongpongtola, Sanenchiba, TemjenyapangAo, and MoanolaLongchar.
Cultural dances, pipe band displays and a pledge for a drug-free Nagaland were other highlights of the celebration.
Longleng
MLA A Pongshi Phom unfurled the national flag at Longleng public ground and took the Rashtriya salute from seven parade contingents.
The district commendation awards were given to S Chingmei, Dr. Nurul Islam, K Lipokmanen Phom, Sangtsou Khiamniungan, K Pangthong Phom, Y Alex Akai Chungkhong, M Wanmei Phom, Pongang Phom, Bomngan Phom, P Toshi, Limayangla, Tiongsangba, Mola Phom, and Bejila Self Help Group.
Cultural presentations, exhibition matches and the inauguration of CCTV cameras at the Police Station were other highlights of the celebration.
Tuensang
Minister of PWD (Housing and Mechanical), Bashamongba Chang, unfurled the national flag at Tuensang public ground and took the Rashtriya salute from 12 parade contingents.
The minister also administered the pledge for a drug-Free Nagaland and gave away district awards to meritorious personalities who have made commendable contributions.
The inauguration of exhibition stalls by ATMA and Agri & Allied departments and the installation of CCTV cameras at Tuensang Police Station Tuensang marked the celebration.
Mon
Minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, unfurled the national flag at Mon Town local ground and took the Rashtriya salute from parade contingents.
The minister administered a pledge for drug-free Nagaland and gave away the district commendation award 2023 to individuals who have demonstrated exemplary services.
Cultural performances, songs and dance presentations were other highlights of the celebration.
Peren
Minister of Health and Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak, unfurled the national flag at Peren’s new headquarters and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents.
On the occasion, district awards for exceptional services were given to three individuals from various departments. The event also featured the inauguration of stalls representing different departments and organisations, fostering community engagement and showcasing the district’s achievements.
The chief guest also symbolically planted a tree sapling as a step towards combating substance abuse. The initiative was aligned with the vision of achieving a drug-free India through the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA).
Phek
Advisor of CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, unfurled the national flag at Phek town and took the Rashtriya salute from the 19 parade contingents.
He also administered a pledge for a drug-free Nagaland emphasising the importance of eradicating the menace from the society.
An exhibition of stalls by seven government departments, two schools, Phek Area Mothers’ Association, Nana Bakes Phek, and Mama’s Home Pickle added vibrancy to the celebration.
The occasion witnessed a special performance by the students of Kiddies Corner School, Phek followed by a captivating folk dance performance by the Lozaphuhu village cultural troupe.
Later, the advisor inaugurated the CCTV cameras at Women Police Station, Phek.
Kiphire
MLA Nuklutoshi unfurled the national flag at Kiphire town public ground and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents.
He also administered a pledge for a drug-free Nagaland and inaugurated the exhibition stalls organised by the Agri and Allied departments, District Legal Service Authority, and 41 Assam Rifle. He also inaugurated the CCTV installation at Police Station, Kiphire.
Song presentations by Tsaliba from Kiphire District Disability Association and Lempanshe Tikhir as well as traditional dances were presented by Amahator Atparu (women cultural troupe) and Tikhir Taimitong Club (men cultural troupe).
Noklak
MLA P Longon unfurled the national flag at Noklak public ground and took the Rashtriya salute from 11 parade contingents.
Longon also administered the pledge on the war on drugs and also presented the district commendation awards to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the district.
He also inaugurated exhibition stalls set up by various departments and self-help groups. The celebration concluded with the beating of the retreat.
Wokha
MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe unfurled the national flag at Wokha town public ground and took the Rashtriya salute from 11 parade contingents.
Humtsoe also felicitated the award recipients from the district and administered the pledge on the ‘Drug-free Nagaland’ campaign.
On the occasion, folk songs were presented by Humtso women cultural troupe and Lakhuti women cultural troupe, while Bethsaida School Wokha performed a drill and K Libemo Jami, DYRO, Wokha, presented an instrumental piece.
The chief guest later inaugurated various stalls set up by departments, SHGs and NGOs at the venue. He also inaugurated CCTV cameras at Wokha Police Station.
Zunheboto
Minister of PHED and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, unfurled the national flag in Zunheboto town and took Rashtriya salute from 13 parade contingents led by parade commander deputy SP, Phyolumo, and parade second-in-command, Sihu Angami.
On the occasion, Zhimomi also felicitated 32 persons who excelled in different categories followed by the launching of a camping on the “War on Drugs.” He also inaugurated the exhibition stalls and CCTV cameras at Zunheboto police stations.
Tseminyu
MLA Jwenga Seb unfurled the national flag at Rengma Sports Association (RSA) ground in Tseminyu town and took the Rashtriya salute from five parade contingents.
On the occasion, Seb called upon the people to resolve to redouble “our efforts, rise above all kinds of differences and ‘isms,’ and unitedly work for the attainment of lasting peace, prosperity, and the highest level of economic development in every nook and corner of the state and for every section of the society.”
He also inaugurated exhibition stalls and CCTV systems at Tseminyu Police Station and also administered a pledge on the ‘Drug-free Nagaland’ campaign.
Chümoukedima
Minister of Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents at Chümoukedima town public ground.
He also inaugurated exhibition stalls put up by various departments.
The cultural presentation including folk songs and dances by different cultural groups were other lights of the celebration.
The celebration concluded with the beating of the retreat by personnel from ARTC&S, Shokhuvi.
Niuland
Advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from 12 parade contingents.
On the occasion, the advisor presented the district commendation certificate to the Niuland Area Citizens’ Forum and also inaugurated exhibition stalls.
Presentations by various educational institutions and folk dances were other highlights of the celebration.
Shamator
MLA Dr. Tsielhoutuo Rhutso unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents.
Dr. Rhutso led the participants in a pledge for a drug-free Nagaland and also gave away district awards. He also inaugurated the exhibition stalls and CCTV cameras at Shamator Police Station.
The event featured cultural performances by Mongtsuwong cultural troupe, Dhopun cultural society and Shamator village cultural troupe.
Jalukie
Advisor of Tribal Affairs and Election, H Tovihoto Ayemi, unfurled the national flag at GHSS ground in Jalukie town and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents.
Tovihoto, who was the special guest of the celebrations, outlined the efforts and achievements of the state government for the all-round development and progress of the state and its people. He also led in the pledge on drug-free Nagaland.
He also inaugurated the exhibition stalls at the venue as well as CCTV cameras at Jalukie Police Station.
Students of GHSS Jalukie, St. Xavier College, ITMS Jalukie, Barail Valley Higher Secondary School and Christian High School, Jalukie, participated in the march past.
Atoizu
Imtichoba unfurled the national flag in Atoizu under Zunheboto district and took Rashtriya salute from four parade contingents.
Other highlights of the programme included a song presentation by students of Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA), a folk song by STH Atoizu and a folk dance by men of Naghuto old village. The chief guest also inaugurated the CCTV cameras at Atoizu police station.
Nagaland University
Nagaland University at Lumami headquarters celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour at the Rajiv Gandhi Park. The event began with the unfurling of the national flag by the vice chancellor, Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, followed by singing of the national anthem.
In his own message, Prof. Patnaik recalled the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and expressed India’s commitment to work towards realising the dreams of the founding fathers and the objectives set out by the central government.
He also gave an overview of the ongoing development projects at Nagaland University. All other campuses including Kohima, Medziphema and Dimapur also celebrated Independence Day at their respective campuses.
Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School
Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, celebrated the Independence Day at its auditorium which was marked with a photo exhibition on Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav, organised by Central Bureau of Communication, field office, Kohima, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, under the guidance of P Sophie, HOD, Central Bureau of Communication, Kohima.
The photo exhibition was inaugurated by the school’s principal, Monoj Bhattacharjee in the presence of P Sophie. The exhibition would culminate on August 17.
Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School
Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, celebrated Independence Day on the school premises on the theme “Nation first, always first.”
The vice chairman of the school managing board, Harendar Singh, hoisted the tri-colour flag and highlighted the prime minister’s goal to make India a developed country by 2047.
Speeches on the significance of the day were delivered by the school’s principal, teachers and students. The programme was marked with a presentation of devotional and patriotic songs.
Sainik School Punglwa
Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) celebrated Independence Day with Lt. Col. Leena Bajaj, officiating principal of the school, as the chief guest who also unfurled the tri-colour followed by singing of the national anthem.
On the occasion, Lt. Col. Leena Bajaj felicitated the administrative staff, mess staff and general employees for their contributions. Special awards were also given to the children of Blooming Buds Foundation School, a primary school to SSPN.
The chief guest highlighted the induction of girl cadets into the fold of Sainik Schools as a landmark change in bringing gender equality. She also emphasised that girl cadets do not require special treatment, reservation and separate contingent to march. Instead, they would march shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts in all spheres of activities, she said.
She urged the staff and the cadets to pledge and devote themselves to the making of India that the freedom fighters and visionaries dreamt of and also to reaffirm the commitment to unity in diversity, fraternity and equality among all citizens.
She further iterated that SSPN would strive hard in the spirit of the school motto “We learn we serve.”
Nagaland House, Delhi
Students and staff of Nagaland House at 29, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi, celebrated Independence Day, wherein Jyoti Kalash, additional chief secretary and chief resident commissioner, unfurled the national flag.
Kalash shared that Nagaland would be the best state to connect the eastern countries in days to come. He further conveyed Independence Day greetings to the participants.
St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School
St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School (SMHSS) along with Lions Club of Dimapur Japfu and Leo Club celebrated Independence Day on the school premises. The school’s principal, Neena Dutta, unfurled the national flag on the occasion.
Global Open University Nagaland
The Global Open University Nagaland (TGOUN) celebrated Independence Day on the university campus, where the university vice-chancellor, Dr. HN Dutta, unfurled the national flag followed by singing of the national anthem.
Short speeches were delivered by Dr. Utkarsh Sharma, director of World Institution Building Programme, and Dr. Roopam Bachhil, TGOUN registrar, wherein they urged the participants to make the country proud. Dr. Utkarsh Sharma also reminded of the heroes and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation and brought freedom, peace, and joy.
MGM Higher Secondary School
MGM Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, celebrate Independence Day at the school premises, wherein Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius, Metropolitan of Calcutta Diocese of Indian Orthodox Church and president of MGM Group of Institutions, unfurled the national flag.
Alexios Mar Eusebius, who is on a three-day tour to Nagaland for the first time, said that he has participated in the best Independence Day celebration of his life in the school. He has congratulated the principal, staff and students for organising a culturally diverse and colourful Independence Day programme.
The programme was marked with cultural presentations, patriotic dance and patriotic songs performed by the students.
