Dimapur, March 25 (EMN): Heeding to the call of Pope Francis, the Catholic faithful under Kohima diocese observed a day of prayer and fast for world peace on March 25.
A press release from Bishop’s House stated that the world is going through very difficult and uncertain times, especially in the context of the war between Russia and Ukraine threatening the world peace and even human existence. It stated that hundreds have been killed and wounded, while thousands are fleeing and rendered homeless besides destroying houses and properties.
As the costs of things are rising high and becoming scarce, it stated that the only weapon is prayer in this difficult and trying situation.
It mentioned that Pope Francis had appealed for prayer, fasting and charity. The Pope carried out a solemn act of consecration of humanity and Russia and Ukraine in particular to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on March 25, the solemnity of the annunciation at 6.30 pm (Roman time).
At his request, priests, religious and faithful assembled in their churches and places of prayer and raised a heartfelt and choral plea to mother Mary.
Report also stated that Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima Diocese, celebrated the Holy Eucharist in the Cathedral along with priests, religious and lay faithful on March 25 and carried out the act of consecration after the Holy Eucharist. It further stated that priests in different parishes of the diocese of Kohima celebrated the Holy Mass in their respective places.
