DIMAPUR, March 5
An emergency Cabinet meeting was held today at 7 pm in the residential office of Chief Minister to take stock of the law and other situation unfolding in Dimapur today. As the Chief Minister is presently in Delhi, the meeting was chaired by Kiyanilie Peseyie, Minister, Social Security & Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs. The Cabinet expressed its shock and regret at the death of Syed Farid Khan, the accused in a rape incident, at the hands of an unruly mob in Dimapur today. The Cabinet condemned in the strongest manner the violent incident, whereby the mob took the law into their own hands, leading to the unfortunate death of the accused in their hands. The Cabinet further appealed to all peace loving citizens of Nagaland to allow the due process of law to take its own course, and not to indulge in violence or vandalism.
The Cabinet also decided to institute a high level inquiry committee to inquire into the incident, and find out the circumstances leading to the unfortunate happenings, and also any lapse or shortcoming on the part of any public servants in connection with the incident, and the persons or group of persons responsible for the violence leading to the death of the said accused in the hands of the mob, and to suggest measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.
