DIMAPUR — The state Cabinet and Eastern Nagaland Legislator’s Union (ENLU) have appealed to the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held on April 19, for the greater benefit of the region and its constituents.

The decision to extend the appeal was unanimously taken at a joint meeting of the state cabinet and ENLU members (20 MLAs) on Saturday, which was convened just two days after the ENPO reaffirmed its commitment to the ‘Chenmoho Resolution of February 23, 2024’ to abstain from participating in any state or central election until the fulfilment of its demands related to Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).

As per an update from DIPR, the ENLU members briefed the Cabinet on their recent visit to Delhi and their meeting with the ENPO on March 28 in Tuensang. “The issue of participation in the forthcoming national elections and ensuring the representation of all voices within the political process was also discussed.”

After thorough deliberations, the house unanimously decided to extend a sincere appeal to the ENPO not to abstain from the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

“The House further noted that upon the installation of the new popular Government in the Centre, a conducive atmosphere will be created for further negotiation of ENPO’s demands,” read the update.

“In light of the above, the Cabinet and ENLU members make an earnest appeal to the ENPO and its constituents, to prioritize the democratic principles and ensure widest possible participation in the upcoming national elections in order to pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for eastern Nagaland,” it added.
