Nagaland board HSLC and HSSLC exams results: Girls outperform boys, again

Kohima, May 30 (EMN): The Nagaland School Board of Education (NBSE) declared the results of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations 2020 amid the novel coronavurus-induced lockdown, on Saturday, and yet again, girls have outperformed boys.

“The girls have again done better with 8470 girls qualifying and 7210 boys qualifying the examination,” said NBSE Chairman Asano Sekhose. Last year too, the girls outperformed boys in HSLC and HSSLC examinations.

In the top 20 list, there are 55 candidates out of which 16 are boys and the rest, that is 39, are girls, Sekhose said during an interaction with media persons at her office chamber right after the result was declared on Saturday.

The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations were conducted in February this year and concluded in the first week of March, before the nationwide lockdown began.

In HSLC, a total of 22,393 candidates enrolled, out of which 15680 candidates qualified the examination with a qualified percentage of 70.03%. Meanwhile, in HSSLC, a total of 15,461 enrolled for the examination, she added.

Ninety-six schools in the state secured 100% qualified/pass percentage, out of which, 83 are private schools and 13 are government institutions. This year, 34 schools have zero result, out of which 30 are government schools and four private schools, Sekhose said.

In terms of district-wise performance, Kohima district has again topped the table with a percentage of 64% for government schools and 89% for private schools. It is followed by Mokokchung with 57% for government schools and 88% for private schools.

Longleng district is at the bottom with 10% pass percentage, followed by Kiphire with 16% for government schools, she informed.

The number of candidates securing 80% and above in aggregate is 986, out of which 11 of them are from government schools, it was informed.
