Mokokchung, Aug. 30 (EMN): President BJP Mokokchung District, Imolemba Jamir, on Tuesday said he respects the high command’s decision on seat-sharing between NDPP and BJP in the 2023 Nagaland assembly election.

However, the district BJP chief hinted that the party might demand more seats if urban local bodies (ULBs) polls are held.

Interacting with this correspondent, Jamir disclosed that earlier on June 18, 60 mandal presidents and all district presidents of BJP resolved not to accept seat-sharing arrangement and sought endorsement from the state BJP president in this regard.

He said news about the pre-poll alliance with the NDPP with seat sharing formula of 40 (NDPP): 20 (BJP) on July 18, was not well received by many BJP karyakartas

But he maintained that there is no issue and that they respect the decisions of the high command, the BJP and its alliance partner NDPP.

With regard to ULB polls, Jamir was of the view that the same seat sharing formula should not be applied but rather it should be the reverse, 40 (BJP):20 (NDPP).

Citing that if Dimapur district with five constituencies can be allotted three NDPP tickets, Jamir said in Mokokchung district, which has 10 assembly constituencies, the BJP should be allotted at least four seats as per the seat sharing arrangement.

“It should be studied thoroughly applying our common sense … this issue would be raised at both district and state levels,” he said.

He further added that if ULB polls are held, then in Mokokchung town which has 18 wards, the BJP should be given 60 percent of the seats and the remaining 40 percent to NDPP. He asserted that, “a resolution would be passed by the district and demand for the proposal at the state level.”

Jamir said if the seat sharing of 40:20 ratio between NDPP and BJP should be accepted, then it is ‘common sense’ that 60 percent of municipal seats should be reserved for BJP in the forthcoming urban local bodies/town committees.

Meanwhile, BJP Mokokchung District held ‘one-day workshop on good public leadership’ at Multipurpose Hall with Rev. Dr. I Imkong Jamir (World Aid Mission) and senior journalist and writer, Aso Imsong, as resource persons.

On the occasion, the BJP Mokokchung district office also handed out appointment orders to party workers for different capacities in the party organization.

Aso Imsong who spoke on the topic ‘Traits and characteristics of a good leader,’ said that a good leader should have vision, be hardworking, be a good communicator and be humble.

Rev. Dr. Imkong Jamir, who spoke on the topic ‘Roles and responsibilities of a public leader – do’s and don’ts’, said a leader should be a motivator, a guide and a person who garners public support.

Earlier, Imolemba Jamir, president of BJP Mokokchung District delivered the keynote address.
