Kohima, July 22 (EMN): Nagaland unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated the victory of NDA presidential candidate, Droupadi Murmu, as the new president of India held at the state capital Kohima on Friday.

State BJP president and minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, in his presidential statement, said Murmu’s victory was a proud moment for tribals, one of the smallest communities of the nation, to become the 15th President of India.

‘We will remember this as a red letter day for the tribal of this nation as the first tribal woman ascended to the highest constitutional post of the country,’ he said adding that BJP as a party has shown its inclusiveness.

The minister thanked the UDA partners including NDPP, NPF, and Independent, for voting in favour of Murmu despite differences in political ideologies. 

The minister of Soil and Water Conservation, Geology and Mining, NSMDC, V Kashiho Sangtam, said her victory was a good example for the Nagas in particular.

He thanked the UDA alliance for their support for voting 100 percent in her favour.

President of state ST Morcha, Wanphong Konyak, said her winning was a victory in manifesting the country’s unity in diversity particularly for the tribal community living in different parts of the country.
