Kohima, March 10 (EMN): The chief electoral officer of Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha said that the ECI has fixed April 11 as the polling day for the Lok Sabha seat as well as the 26th Aonglenden assembly constituency in Mokokchung district.
Addressing a press conference in Kohima on Sunday evening, Sinha informed that the last date for filing of nominations was March 25; and withdrawal of candidature, March 28. Votes will be counted on May 23.
General voters as per final E-Roll published in 2019 stands at 12,02,307 in Nagaland. Out of which 6,06,173 are male and 5,96,134 female. Service voters’ tally stands at 7306, with 7236 male and 70 female. The total number of voters is 12,09,613, in which 6,13,409 are male and 596204 female.
Altogether 2227 polling stations at 2067 polling station locations have been arranged for the general Lok Sabha election in Nagaland, he informed.
For Aonglenden, the total number of voters is 12269 with 6098 male and 6171 female voters. Sinha informed that 16 polling stations have been arranged at 15 locations for the by-election. The SDO (civil) of Mokokchung will be the returning officer for the by-election, he added.
While the training of polling personnel ‘will start now,’ according to the CEO, the training of all nodal officers has been completed already. There are about 270 sector officers, he updated.
Sinha has also convened a meeting on March 11 at 1 pm at Hotel Japfü in Kohima with all the political parties. The CEO also declared that the model code of conduct was in operation effective immediately, and will be in force till the elections are completed.
