Nagaland bag 2 gold, one bronze in taekwondo

(EM Images)[/caption] Our Correspondent Imphal, Nov. 30 (EMN): Nagaland taekwondo players bagged two gold and one bronze medal at the end of the five-day 64th edition of the National School Games, 2018 in Taekwondo for U-14 boys & girls at the Taekwondo Training Hall of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal on Fri. Nov. 30. The two gold medal winners are Lensethong of Kiphire district in the U-18 kg category while his senior player N Tenloi Phom won in the U-27-29 kg category. The lone bronze medal winner was Lungamba. It may be mentioned that a 14 member Nagaland team was led by Manager Keneilevo Nagi who was accompanied by two coaches Ngaiching Phom and Visabiu Peseyie. Nagaland was ranked 7th in medal tally of the games after Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. Otherwise host Manipur emerged overall team champion with a total of nine medals including five gold three silvers and one bronze at the end of 5-day long games which was organised by the Youth Affairs and Sports Department under the aegis of School Games Federation of India. Haryana took three golds, four silvers and one bronze to clinch the overall runners-up title. The third position in the tally was bagged by Maharashtra with two gold, five silvers and two bronze medals. Joint Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports Luckyson N Kashung, Joint Director Youth Affairs and Sports Kh Pramoda Devi and Observer School Games Federation of India RK Parihar attended the day’s closing ceremony of the National School Games which was started from Nov. 26. Altogether about 500 taekwondo players (including 280 boys) U-14 years representing 30 teams including 25 states of the country took part in the five-day competition. The main competition among boys (U-18 kg to 41kg above) and girls (U-16 kg to 38kg above) players were held under 11 different categories. Young players from four NE states including host Manipur (17 including 10 boys), Assam (17 including 10 boys), Nagaland (11 boys) and Mizoram (14 including 7 boys) participated in the national games.
