Nagaland: Atma conducts demonstration programme

Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma), Kohima block, conducted field demonstration programme and launched a farm school at Chedema on September 11 and the 17th respectively.

A demonstration on cultivation practices of garlic was conducted where Rokotuono Phira, ATM, said that garlic can be grown from June to November in Kohima region. She also encouraged the farmers to promote garlic cultivation, stating that it is a wide utility crop as it has various health benefits coupled with high demand in the market.

The participants were also taught on cultural operations to be followed throughout the growing season by the resource person. She also shared the importance of nursery bed and how to sow lettuce seeds by preparing nursery bed.

Later, a demonstration on cabbage cultivation was conducted by ATM Thejavinuo Mepfü-o. She explained cultivation practices starting from selection of field till harvesting. Demonstration of seed sowing of cabbage was done at a nursery bed near the main field.

In a separate programme, Atma, Kohima block, launched a system of rice intensification (SRI) farm school at Chedema. The programme was chaired by ATM Thejavinuo Mepfü-o, while the concept of farm school and the duties of farm school teacher were highlighted by ATM Rokuotuono Phira.

The farm school teacher, Mhalesetuo, said that he had recently adopted the SRI with the intervention of the Agriculture department.

The resource person further apprised the farmers on the kissan call centre (KCC), its toll-free number and how they could effectively use it to their advantages while carrying out farming activities.
