Nagaland: ATMA Chümoukedima conducts training for farmers

Dimapur, Nov. 4 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Authority (ATMA) under Chümoukedima block conducted training, demonstration and mobilisation of groups in three villages.

An update from ATMA stated training on mushroom cultivation was conducted in Eralibill village for Eden Self Help Group on November 1 with Keneisanuo, ATM, as the resource person. It informed that a total of 12 participants and four ATMA functionaries attended the programme. Inputs like oyster mushroom spawns along with kits were distributed to the group.

On the same day, another programme on mobilisation of farm women group was organised in Naga United Village with Dr. Tiatula Jamir, BTM, as the resource person.

Dr. Jamir highlighted the different activities under ATMA programme and elucidated the advantages in forming farmers’ group. She added that mobilisation and collective self-help within the group would pave a way to generate resources to improve their socio-economic situation.

She further added that the group could take up nutritional kitchen gardening of bio-fortified crops, mushroom cultivation, vermicomposting and value addition like pickle making throughout the year to become self-sustaining and to secure food for themselves and their families.

Book-keeping and monthly meeting within the group was also encouraged.

Kuzuve SHG comprising of 11 women farmers was mobilised as farmers’ interest group.

Hybrid winter vegetable seeds, maize var HQPM 1, toria var RGN -298, Pea var Rachna and Lentil were distributed to the participants, which were provided by the district agriculture officer, Chümoukedima.
