Nagaland Assembly passes bill to protect depositors’ interest

Our Correspondent KOHIMA, JULY 24 Two bills including the Nagaland Protection of Interests of Depositors (in financial establishment) Bill 2014 and Nagaland State Legislature Members Removal of Disqualification First Amendment Bill 2015 were passed by voice vote. The Depositors Protection bill was introduced by Chief Minister T R Zeliang, while minister for Social Welfare Kiyanielie laid the Legislature Members Bill yesterday in the House. The Nagaland Protection of Interests of Depositors (In Financial Establishment) Bill, 2014 sought to check the activities of financial establishments engaged in the business of receiving deposits under various schemes and safeguard the interests of the depositors. Meanwhile, the passing of two important bills, the Nagaland Lokayukta Bill 2015 and Nagaland Prohibition of Gambling and Promotion and Regulation of Online Games of Skill Bill 2015, has been deferred till July 27 in the state Assembly today. NLA Speaker Chotisuh Sazo announced that on the request of the government, the two bills which were due to be taken into consideration and passed today will be taken up on Monday, the last day of the ongoing Budget Session.
