Nagaland Assembly constitutes Nagaland Legislators Forum on Naga political issue

After a gap of two and a half years Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) has once again come together to re-constitute legislators forum on Naga political issue.
However, the meeting of all legislators of the 12th NLA held today, has re-christened the erstwhile Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) constituted in July 2012 during the 11th NLA as Nagaland Legislators Forum (NLF) on Naga Political issue comprising of members irrespective of political party affiliation.
The closed-door meeting of all the legislators of the 12th NLA was held under the chairmanship NLA Speaker Chotisuh Sazo in the Conference Hall of the Assembly Secretariat here today.
In a statement, Commissioner & Secretary N. Benjamin Newmai said that “the forum shall carry the voice of the House to all sections including the Government of India and the Naga national workers”.
The NLF has reiterated its commitment to play the role of facilitators in the ongoing peace process and appealed to the negotiating parties to expedite the ongoing negotiation so as to bring about an amicable solution that is acceptable to the people.
The NLF also acknowledged the renewed efforts of the NDA government and the Naga ‘national workers’ in resuming the Indo-Naga political dialogue.
The NLF also appreciated the Government of India particularly the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for their renewed sincerity in the Indo-Naga political dialogue.
Further, the House resolved to constitute Parliamentary Working Committee on Naga political issue consisting of all political parties.
The NLF also requested the NLA Speaker to set aside a day during the budget session to exclusively discuss on Naga political issue.
The meeting was chaired by Speaker Chotisuh Sazo wherein Chief Minister T R Zeliang delivered the introductory speech while short speeches were also delivered by leaders of Legislature of all political parties in the House i.e. Congress, BJP, JDU and NCP and Independent MLAs.
