Nagaland Assembly adopts POCSO Amendment Act, POCSO Rules 2020
KOHIMA — The Nagaland State Assembly (NLA) unanimously adopted a resolution on ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Amendment Act, 2019 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Rules, 2020’ on day one of the second session of the14th NLA at Kohima.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio moved the resolution on the floor of the house and was later passed through a voice vote on Monday.
It came more than four years after the Ministry of Law and Justice notified ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act, 2019’, after the POCSO Act 2012 was amended on August 5, 2019, under Article 252 of the Constitution.
The government of Nagaland had earlier adopted ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Act, 2012′ on September 26, 2016.
In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 45 of POCSO Act, 2012 (32 of 2012)- Powers to make rules, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has developed and notified ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, Rules, 2020’ on March 9, 2020.
The Cabinet has approved the adoption of ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Amendment Act, 2019, and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Rules, 2020’.
The NLA monsoon session, which commenced on Monday, will conclude on Thursday with a day recess on Wednesday.
