Nagaland: 7-A-Side Men’s Open Tournament kicks off

KOHIMA — The 7-A-Side Men’s Open Tournament organised by the Youth Department of Christian Revival Church (CRC), Kohima kicked off at L. Viluo FIFA Pro Turf, Vilietsa, Meriema, on Friday.

A total of 16 teams are participating in the two-day sporting event.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Vibeilietuo Kets, Special Assistant to Chief Minister of Nagaland, said a professional sportsperson must work hard, maintain discipline and follow guidelines of the game while pursuing their sporting dreams.

While emphasising the need to maintain health by exercising, sleeping for at least seven hours daily and maintaining a balanced diet, he also advised the sportspersons to focus and excel in one particular field of sports.

He said futsal has prospect as it is gaining popularity in Nagaland, especially in Kohima. He also expressed hope that the astro turf facility at Meriema will produce national and international players, while thanking the clan of late L. Viluo for constructing the futsal field.

The champion will receive a cash prize of INR 40,000 while the runners-up will get INR 20,000, INR 5000 each for semi-finalists and INR 3000 each for Player of the Tournament and Best Goalkeeper.
