NagaEd launches initiative to improve education in border areas
DIMAPUR — NagaEd has launched a three-year initiative to improve education quality in the areas along the India-Myanmar border, including places such as Sitimi, Longmatra, Khongsa, Amahator, Pungro, and Kiphire.
According to a press release from the company, the region, while rich in culture and tradition, has often grappled with educational challenges, and education in these regions tells a tale of potential yet to be tapped.
It mentioned that Pungro registers a female literacy rate as low as 35.86%, and Kiphire witnesses school dropout rates 12 times above the national average.
The NagaEd team, which is currently deployed in Kiphire, is on a ‘listening mission,’ engaging in genuine dialogue and attuned listening with teachers, students, administrators, and community bodies about their educational aspirations.
“The methodology envelops surveys, interviews, and observations but is steeped in a deeper, more connective engagement,” the release maintained.
The ‘listening mission’ in Kiphire, according to NagaEd founder Kevisato Sanyu, aims to understand and integrate the true needs and dreams of educators and students, while co-founder Shiroi Shaiza Sanyu stated that NagaEd’s intervention places a significant emphasis on empowering educators.
The release also mentioned that a Learning Enhancement and Accessibility Project (LEAP) was launched this week in Kiphire in partnership with the district administration and in the presence of government officials, community members, and local schools.
Speaking on the occasion, John Tsulise Sangtam, DC Kiphire, expressed his hope that the programme would result in increased capacity in digital learning, allowing people in the region to catch up with the rest of the world.
