JIEVITHO Augustine Nyuwi of St. Xavier’s Parish, Meluri, received the 17th National Youth Award during the ongoing 9th National Youth Convention at Jalandhar, Punjab at a glittering ceremony on October 11. The award is given annually for excellence in youth ministry by Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) Commission for Youth and Youth Activ8 Foundation of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM).The award was given away by Archbishop, Leo Cornelio of Bhopal and Chairman of CBCI Commission for Youth, Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar, Bishop Jacob Mar Barnabas OIC, and Archbishop Anil JT Couto of Delhi.
Jievitho Nyuwi is currently the president of Pochury Catholic Youth Association and Central Executive Committee member of Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM). The award recognised his outstanding work for the youth ministry in the Kohima diocese (Nagaland state) and his leadership at the diocese, tribe and parish level.
He was the vice president of NCYM 2009-11. In this capacity, he participated in the National Youth Convention (2010) in Shillong. He helped organise the 6th Nagaland Youth Convention at Meluri in January 2011.
He also organised several camps and conventions for the youth of his tribe and even at diocese level. He also attended World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The last Naga to win this prestigious award was Nikhi Pohena in 2004 at Bhopal.
