DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 11: Editor of Ao Naga daily ‘Tir Yimyim,’ K Temjem Jamir called upon the educated Naga youth to opt for self employment and create wealth through entrepreneurship saying the present era should not be an age of seeking government jobs where it has reached a saturation point.
He was speaking at the cultural seminar organised by the Ao Students’ Union of Dimapur Government College on September 10 at Lotha Hoho Ki, Dimapur.
He remarked that in this era of wealth creation, government job should not be the sole target of getting education for Naga students but rather utilise one’s education and skill to establish own enterprise in creating wealth for the benefit of the people.
He recounted the days when educational institutions were established to impart education in Nagaland with a single objective to seek for government jobs after acquiring educational degrees. Subsequently, almost all the early Naga students became government servants. He, however, said it is high time for present generation of Naga youth and students to change that mindset and go beyond the target of government services, adding the aim of imparting education to serve the society is much more than government service. In this era, “One should be job creators rather than job seekers,” he added.
He also said culture and tradition are not inherent by birth but rather inculcated and imbibed during the course of one’s growth which according to him is dynamic and progressive. He called upon the student community to know their ancestral lineage so that they do not forget their roots and propagate the same values to the younger generation.
He also advised that this era is not the time to create enmity with others but to maintain harmony and unity with one another for peaceful coexistence. Stating that today even large and strong nations cannot survive alone, he said we see more nations seeking for interdependent status rather than independence.
Amongst the seniors, Imtiwapang Aier exhorted the students.
In the second session, Associate Prof. Dr. Benjong spoke on teachers and students relationship.
The students presented special number and participated in the talk on the value of mother tongue during the sessions.
