Kohima, March 9 (EMN): Two women from Nagaland bagged the best Northeast Entrepreneurs Award 2019, given by the Assam-based group ‘Anuprerona,’ during the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8 at Hotel Nivedan in Dispur.
Dimapur-based entrepreneurs—Yangerla Jamir, proprietor of Native Beads and Takochila Walu, proprietor of Techinutsu Pickle — were honoured for their “decade-long dedicated service to the cause of society and active participation in project for empowerment of society.”
Jamir, who is the president of North East Entrepreneurs Association, Nagaland Chapter told
Eastern Mirror that the award is not only for the women entrepreneurs, but also for their relentless contribution in empowering women in various ways.
Her ‘Native Bead’ engages in designing and making all kinds of traditional jewelleries and ornaments, while Walu’s Techinutsu Pickle deals exclusively in Naga-made pickles.
Jamir learned the intricate art of making jewellery from her grandmother who, she said, was so worried about losing the art in today’s world. Jamir started making traditional jewelleries at the age of 12.
